`
Hi, here's my next lil' challenge -

I was successful using this post of Shirin, to Run BartPE from Hard at boot time on a WinTel box.
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4866

[i'm making this new post here so it can be more easily seen, plz move if necessary Thanks :(]

With that confidence, I thought I'd love that same advantage on a Boot Camp installation.

But, ultimately run into error < Process1_Initialization_Failed >

[ And, I understand that my "problem" is coming from the "boot-time family feud" between GUID & MBR :smiling9: ]

Scenario = 9 month old MacBook Pro, w/ a "creative" install / partition method ---->

*Using Disk Utility of Snow Leopard Install DVD,
established 4 partitions after performing a full Disk Erase/Verify-Repair disk.

- remember that (dev1) is the special EFI partition Apple/Intel claims for itself,
and is "technically" the 1st partition,
but "functionally" in my definition, the 1st partition will be Snow Leopard -

1st partition (dev2) = HFS Extended Journaled, ultimately Snow Leopard installed here

2nd partition (dev3) = set to HFS Extended Journaled only until XPsp3.Pro is installed on (dev4)
................................... (because XP will install himself on the 1st partition he finds that has a familiar file-system)
................................... this will become a Fat32 DATA partition between SnowLeo & XP

3rd partition (dev4) = DOS/FAT - installed XPsp3.Pro here as the 1st install,
................................... format to NTFS during install

4th partition (dev5) = HFS Extended Journaled for "Mac_BAK" -
................................... a DATA partition for SnowLeo on the "other side" where XP can't see it

Next, install XPsp3.Pro to what -he- sees as the 4th, and LAST, partition [DOMINANCE! :( ] -
because we know that being M$, he's "funny" like that

- then install "Boot Camp" for the drivers

{recalling that "Boot Camp" is really 2 things -

.....1) a partitioning method (which I don't need, 'cause I'm more creative than that
plus, I want to separate my OS from my DATA - 'cause I know too well that Macs eventually kak

.....2) a collection of the drivers necessary to run XP in Mac}

Next, reboot w/ SnowLeo Install DVD, use Disk Utility to erase partition 2 (dev3) & reformat as DOS/FAT -
it actually formats it as Fat32. Now I have a Win_DATA partition in between SnowLeo & XP.

Next, install SnowLeo on 1st partition.

Then, I find that I can SUCCESSFULLY make, & RESTORE!, an image of XP using Drive Snapshot from my BartPE boot -

(well, i know - give me another week or so experimenting with my WinBuilders,
and soon i'll be a full practicing member of this wonderful Boot-Land church :(

I store the image on the 2nd partition, Win_DATA, and successfully Restore the image!

Man, am I Happy to finally achieve this! - separating DATA from OS running XP on Mac,
plus a separate partition on the same hdd to store sytem images !

(of course i copied the image to another 2 hdds for extra backup safety as well)

*Next, perform Shirin's method to hopefully boot a PE from hdd - but after the method,
when attempting to boot, I get the Blue Screen error :

Process1_Initialization_Failed
0X0000006B (0XC000003A, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

...... so, can anyone help?

may-be we can tweak the script somehow to allow a peaceful "marriage"
between the native GUID environment, and this method that is intended for MBR ?

thx very much!

This Forum is "news".
Boot Land > Groups > Community forum > News >
http://www.boot-land...hp?showforum=27

There is a Forum:
Boot Land > Groups > Boot from USB / Boot anywhere > Linux and other OS flavours
http://www.boot-land...hp?showforum=70

Since your thread is about booting, and about booting an "other OS flavour" and I cannot see what it has to do with "news", I 'll let you judge if the answer to the question:

Can we speak "MAC" here?

is yes or no.

Hi,

I use refit to control the boot order between OSX and Ubuntu: http://refit.sourceforge.net/

For booting windows, it should be just as easy to manage as well and you don't have to wrestle with partition order.

thx Nuno - I have used ReFit a few months back on another Intel Mac setup,
but didn't this time - I'll install it and see if it makes a difference.

'tho, I am supposedly booting from the * > * > boot.ini sequence ?

I have no idea.

What I like best about refit is that you can configure it easily to boot from about anywhere.

If you're trying to completely overrun the default OSX boot then I wouldn't be able to help you much as I've never tried it (needed) manually before, refit simply works well for this task.
