I spent two days looking for the "how to" on this and thought maybe someone else might also need this. Here are the steps to boot VistaPE from Flash Drive USB:

1. Insert your USB flash drive to the system and backup all the data.

2. Open elevated Command Prompt. Start > All programs >Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator.

3. When the Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:

DISKPART and hit enter.

LIST DISK and hit enter.

Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show the disk number of your USB drive. Here, my USB drive disk no is Disk 1.

4. In these steps you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter.

SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION 1

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=NTFS

(Format process may take few minutes depending on size of flash drive)

ASSIGN

EXIT

5. Insert your VistaPE CD in the optical drive and note down the drive letter of the optical drive and USB media. Here I used “E” as my optical (CD) drive letter and “K” as my USB drive letter.

6. Go back to command prompt and execute the following commands:

E: and hit enter. Where “E” is your CD drive letter.

CD BOOT and hit enter.

BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 K: and hit enter

(Where “K” is your USB drive letter)

7. Copy VistaPE CD contents to USB.

You can now use this bootable USB flash drive as bootable CD on a computer that comes with USB boot feature.

This bootable USB how to will not work if you are trying to make a bootable USB on an XP computer.

What you say may work just fine

BUT

Have you ever tried the copy to USB script?

In Winbuilder after you have a good build,, select 6-Copy to USB script

Set root to USB in script window

Run script,,, click little green arrow

Format window comes up say ok
Make sure you format your USB device – I use quick format option
Start
Yes
Close when done
Grub4dos installer comes up select disk
Refresh part list and pick one
Install
Ok

This may save you some time

I have not been able to get WinBuilder to do anything after making the iso file.
No matter which version I use. No matter with VistaPE or Win7 or Naughty.
In every case I must use Nero to burn image. I tried to include a script to burn
to flash drive but was unsuccessful. It is probably only my inexperience.
But this worked for me.

the copy to USB script copies files from the Target folder,

copy to USB does not use burn ISOs to USB (maybe someday)

all of the projects you listed that i have built all used the copy to USB script to burn to USB drive

this can be done without any other programs, right from the script.

Copy to USB script has to be run from script window in Winbuilder, it will burn your last build to USB and make it bootable,,
