Is it possible to add a few (3-5) pages of Recent Comments? Quite often a member participates in a thread many times, or follows a particular thread. Then a timeout is taken, and next day its often hard to find that thread, if its gone from Recent Comments, and you didn't pay attention before, in what Forum Category it was posted.

At times its not easy and time consuming to figure out afterwards, where to look for it. If we add a few links to previous scope of Recent Comments (page 2, 3, 4, 5), it would be a lot easier to find the recent thread one was just recently reading and still interested in. :whistling:

If you posted to that thread, or you remember at least one participant of the thread, you can use the Search function allright.
  • Enter a member name in "Author", leave "Find words" empty.
  • Make sure you select Search in Section "Forum".
  • Choose to Display results "As posts".
  • Click on the "Search Now" button.

Thanks for the detail smart instructions. Yes, now I remember trying to talk to Wonko once. I wondered what brand of Beer he drinks so eagerly after each post? :whistling:

However, this suggestion remains in-force. Forum Search can replace many things already offered on this forum. Nonetheless they are still present, yet adding a few pages to Recent Comments still awaits to be implemented, despite quite popular on many other forums. :smiling9:

Sure :smiling9:, noone is going to invalidate the request, given suggestion was intended, since the point is only if and when anyone will fulfill it, as a workaround until it is fulfilled or if it is not fulfilled.

Good workaround! :whistling: Recent Comments is the most readable section of this forum. If we add a few pages with still Recent Comments that simply didn't fit on the front page anymore due to its limited size and JS script performance, the forum attendance will get a lot better. Isn't it was the purpose to Reboot in the first place? I frequently miss these "A Day-Back Machine" shortcuts to just disappeared from the front page threads, and certainly many other forum participants would gladly use them as well. :smiling9:

I wanted to find a recent thread, and failing to do so decided to formulate a new suggestion. When I opened Site Feedback section, I was surprised to find exact same suggestion already submitted by me long ago, and still not implemented!

Would the forum administration care to comment, why several Recent Comments page links available in previous forum version were removed from Recent Comments, and whether they will be reinstated in near future? Is that so technically challenging to add a few page links & extend "on demand" Recent Comments Period?

Hello,

I like the idea but I lack time to implement this myself.

The current Javascript/AJAX solution has problems, it would be nicer to replace this with a static HTML of recent comments that would be updated at every 2 minutes and could be tabbed up to the past 3 days or so.

If you find a volunteer willing to code this feature, I will be glad to assist with the means at my reach.

Hi Nuno,

I'm not a programmer, but there are many programmers visiting this forum on daily basis. Let's make a first step, and ask if someone from this forum community would be willing to spend a little time to have this visibly simple task implemented to the benefit of all? :yahoo:

Web coders - anyone of you is willing to contribute a little to this forum usability? Admit, over the years this forum has being extremely useful free info source for very large number of people. Adding a few links to more Recent Comments pages will make it capable to easily help even more folks, especially newbies finding harder to get around and catch recent useful conversation now.

I wonder, if after updating the forum to a new engine version its now possible to add a few more page links to Recent Comments? Currently most users are locked into a single front page. Adding a few more page links to recent posts will notably increase forum activity and number of the site hits. Not to mention, it would make life so much easier for those members, who want to post in topics seen just yesterday, but now disappeared from view.

I would like to see that feature available. With the current engine it is possible to use the search tool to get a better notion of recent activity over the past days when no longer listed on the front page, but it is not very handy.

I will ask the developer of the plugin if he is willing to add pagination.

Personally, I would like to see tabs for "Past 24 hours", "Past 48 hours" and "Past week". To keep things simple, pagination is the first step.

While not the default on the "front page", the new content has some of this already - like

New since my last visit
Past 24 hours
Past week
Past 2 weeks
Past month
Past 6 months
Past year

Other

Just items I follow
Topics I participated in
Topics I started
Filter by forum

So, it is possible...BY using this, and the "mark content read", it is fairly easy to follow updated topics !

Good point. I guess that only pagination of recent topics is necessary in that case.

Glad that not all is bad on the recent forum update..

Yes would be nice to have that feature back.
Would also like it, if the board software would not hide posts from me.

Liked it, like it was before, when recent post meant, show all since i last pressed 'mark all as read' regardless, if i had read it or not. Was better for not loosing so fast sight of a topic.

I know what you mean, this also happens for new messages and I don't like it as I receive too many messages and then the notification is gone even when some messages were not read.. frustrating..

There is not much that can be done in that department, that is core IPB functionality now. I can ask the developer of "recent topics" on front page to make changes, I doubt that the good IPB team will give any consideration to our request of bringing back the old behavior.

There used to be a post above mine from sambul, who asked, that every member could delete posts he made by mistake in a wrong thread.

We used to have that. Problem was with some big children, who deleted all their posts, when things didn't go their way.
So i'm a bit reluctant to see this feature again, unless it would time out, after a few minutes.

That's maybe good enough for those, who makes very few posts each day.
For those of us, who are more active, that's not even a bad solution.

I'm a bit reluctant to see this feature again (Delete Post), unless it would time out, after a few minutes.

It sounds like a good middle ground - allow deleting posts for experienced forum members within some time -  i'd leave it to the admin to select time frame. Better yet, the post could be deleted, if nothing was posted in that thread after it. The feature is at times useful, if not abused. People argue on forums all the time, but content is donated and generally can't be claimed back. However, since Post Editing is allowed, I don't see a big difference in permitting more efficient cleanup: in my example instead of typing "Deleted" I would simply delete the post, since nothing was posted below it.

The forum is not so specific to add the rule of "person from member category X can delete own post until Y hours".

People can indeed delete the content inside each topic but we keep the reference of the post. Otherwise, if you deleted all your topics then it would seem that MedEvil is talking with an imaginary friend. If a thread can safely be deleted without breaking the discussion, one of the moderators will take care of removing the comment.
