do you have a usb flash with an LED indicator? I use a corsair voyager that has one that I use when havving USB boot problems on some systems because it blinks upon access. maybe your new device may not have enough power to boot from usb?


I think you need to find out what PMAP is for sure. I guess the device had limited documentation with it. if you can get to it directly then is there any way to boot grub4dos inside? like from internal storage and then boot into Plop.iso and try from there.

I can try a powered hub.

PMAP wont show up as choice until i have a USB stick in the usb hub connected to MeegoPad

 

Otherwise you just get 

 

Please select boot device:
 Windows Boot Manager        (Boots into installed Windows 8.1 on MeegoPad )

  Enter Setup                          (ENTER's the BIOS screen)

Will try the Powered Hub, since without self power the Zalman dvd  Virtual enclosure seemed to not work either, but the self powered Dvd Drive did seem to show upbut didnt boot

Powered hub seems to result PMAP usb sticks booting into

Yes, I have a usb flash with an LED indicator ! Shows up PMAP

With powered hub . There are 2 Usb connected, both show up as PMAP

The one with led indicator shows activity and has windows 8.1 setup files

Bios - Advanced - Security Configuration
- Intel TXE Configuration (Intel TXE: Intel Trusted Execution Engine driver)
TXE (Enabled) by default,  re enabled again before booting


Bios - Advanced - CPU Configuration
Execute Disable Bit (Enabled) by default,  re enabled again before booting

 

 

Tried Zalman with powered usb hub.

Shows up as :

UEFI: ZALMAN Virtual CD-Rom -

Windows 8.1 Se x86.  booted

No keyboard & mouse working.

 

Can see icon on desktop with "SE Warnings". Cant access No keyboard & mouse working.

 

 

When selecting UEFI: ZALMAN Virtual CD-Rom

Booted Pe but missed it booting to Pe because It shows for a fraction of time the option "press any key to boot pe , something to that effect.

 

Rebooted this time fast enough to select press to boot to pe. thats how boted but no keyboard or  mouse active

 

 

Still no mouse keyboard working.

"SE Warning" on Desktop only

 

 

 

More testing next week.

do you have a usb thumbdrive with XP installed and booting successfully on other systems? or usb 7?

try one of these directly into usb port without a hub attached.

I would also disable - Intel TXE Configuration (Intel TXE: Intel Trusted Execution Engine driver)

I dont know what TXE is but it sounds like it may be what is preventing usb boot maybe.

I have no experience with w8 but it should be easy to install grub4dos on the internal HDD. anybody?

I think XP doesnt have UEFI support and might be the reason meegopad cant boot XP from USB.

why would XP need support for UEFI since it is a bios replacement and I seem to recall you mentioned it had a legacy (bios) mode, no? also, I dont remember seeing anywhere that XP does not boot on UEFI systems? if fact I think I have booted it on one but now I will have to double check to be sure since you mention that.

if I can confirm this unit or a similar one will boot up XP then I would be in a rush to get one!

no, i didn't say  the meegopad had legacy (bios). I mentioned that i think you need the bios to have legacy bios in order to install Win Xp or windows 7.

American Megatrends did not give us UEFI/legacy bios in meegopad. We only get UEFI.

 

So trying to install XP on UEFi might be like when a

weiner dog humping a turtle!

I haven't read anyone booting XP 32bit from UEFI. If anyone finds a way other the a virtual machine, let us know.
