A little info for ya folks,

As described here http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=46752 in extremely technical detail, the standard ESDI_506.PDR driver in ALL win9x OS's will cause serious failure and data loss on any hdd larger than 137 gigs. This effects Mindows as much as any other 9x system, and is true regardless of partition sizes.

There is a fix in the works on Exuberant SP-1's forum, but it is not known (by me at least) whether it will work as advertised on Mindows as compared to a full system.

The only other work-around is to hook large drives to a capable drive controller (promise card). The drive is then controlled by the controller card's driver rather than the standard .PDR, but it is getting hard to find cards that support 9x.

So be careful out there!

Welcome , roamer_1.

Actually there already is a solution by LLXX on the MSFN Forums.

HERE:
http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=78592

This covers ONLY ESDI_506.PDR, not other specific disk driver.

And of course no warranty of any kind (but also no strings) attached.

Thanks for the welcome TheHive, Jaclaz.

Hiya Jaclaz

-Fancy meetin you here...:P I see ya nearly everywhere I go!

I know of the fix, and I am running it currently, but I am still rather careful with it- I am not certain how it interacts with other drivers which may be stripped out of Mindows, and secondly, I am not yet certain of the effect on things like ntfs drivers and such.

Has anyone specifically proven it in Mindows, or specifically with Systernals NTFS98, Paragon NTFS98 or the like?

I have had limited use under Mindows, but all has been fine so far.

Props to LLXX!

-Bruce
