I have following question about Grubutil fat.

If I set debug on and using fat on the command-line I get following warning: Warning! The program is outdated!

Fat works fine for me. Any clue?

I am using latest version I could find (fat 2015-02-15) and Grub4Dos 2019-09-09.

its a debug message which was not removed. Just turn off debug!

Steve, since you are here, do you know who (if anyone) is maintaining these utilities?

Deomsh - JFYI - made quite a few tests with fat here:

https://msfn.org/boa...e-on-usb-drive/

Start reading around here:

https://msfn.org/boa...comment=1176709

and found more than one little things that could be fixed.

In the end he wrote a couple grub4dos batches (that BTW may be of interest to you) to format a volume (on partitioned media) with either FAT16 or FAT32, but an updated (and "fixed") fat utility would surely be handy.

FAT16:

FAT32:

Steve6375,

Thanks. Good to know it's harmless.

I had some problems with the debug message while redirecting the output of "fat dir" in a Grub4Dos batchfile, but I found an acceptable solution independent from debug.

Wonko,

I am working on a generalized version of rd2hdft.. for all fat devices, and including FAT12. Also with many switches. I hope I will succeed to generate valid UUID's, more needed now.
