I built WinPe Se a couple of years ago, using Winbuilder 82.

 

The DVD booted without problems on my various PC's. =

 

Today however, on one PC, it gets to the desktop background and just 'hangs'.

 

It still boots OK on other machines, and other Boot DVD/CD's boot Ok (eg Acronis True Image, Disk Director, etc;)

Some possible reasons:

 

1st when the 'hangingPC' has never been changed and now suddenly fails, some VooDoo happened and I cannot explain or help.

2nd when the 'hanging PC' is previously running, but sowmehow fails after a change, my magic crystal ball refuses to find a solution because it has no knowledge about the change.

3nd when you added a new PC, my magic crystal ball is also not able to help, but you could help with explaining what's new.

The problem has gone away!

 

I don't know why it started or why it has cured itself. I did open the case to check for loose memory, graphics card etc; because the PC was making 'beeps' - it still is occasionally beeping and I am investigating this by substituting parts.

 

Maybe poking around cured the boot problem - can't see why though as other DVD's booted OK.

 

Just one of those things I guess.

Those beeps mean something...

Navigate to the Motherboard manufacturers website.

Search for Bios Post Beep Codes 'for your motherboard.'

It should explain what the series of long and/or short beeps means.

sort of like a morse code.

Thanks for the tip - but I am well aware of the meaning of the Beeps and where to find out wht they mean - which is why I said I was substituting parts (most answers point to Graphics Card) - but the beeps are not always present, which makes diagonsing the problem difficult. The PC is basically working fine.
