Several troubles, issues, posts due to version 10 and version 11 beta let me suggest:

Can we have a download link which works similar as LiveXP, NativePE or nativeEx_barebone:
  • Download
  • Define the source (Maybe Vista special: define WAIK or Vista CD as base)
  • Build the project
  • See it running in an emulator (all implemented apps run, too)
I understand that currently actuell is a beta.
The running version I recommend, may be old, mainly it should run on the first trial.
But in the latest release / beta it is only a question of selecting the right scripts, and giving them the right options, when uploading to server.

In the 'viewers' list I saw a couple of 'famous' members.
Is my suggestion so stupid, that nobody agrees?

I can't really agree or not agree as i'm not sure at the moment, that my source isn't the root of all my troubles.

But i have the feeling that there is nobody maintaining version 10 anymore, sorry if that's a wrong impression.

This issue also should be captured by a 'one click' build!

i am sorry, but why it now not work as you expect? all must work with default parameters in "one click"...

ps if you use non standard MS Vista DVD as source, you may have problem, but i can not supposition all possibly non standart sources, but you can try chouse right source in "PreConfig" script....

I did a fresh (recommended) download of beta 11 into an empty folder, defined the source and started the build.
Build was w/o critical errors (two uncritical errors see below)

When booting into VMWare or VirtualBox, I'm told 'Starting Vista' and then there is a black screen. I waited about 15 minutes before I aborted.

I think that I have a standard Vista source. It is a DVD containing all versions from starter to ultimate and 11 international languages.

BTW: If the tools directory does not contain devcon.exe, it makes no sence to query the size of devcon.exe and then try to delete it.
That brings unnecessary error messages and is confusing the new usewr.

I tried the same with final 10.

After build time of 29 minutes (including download of hundreds MB of Slax Linux - I thought that I wanted to build VistaPE  ) the result was the same as with beta 11:

Black screen.

How did you do this?
Slax didn't download for me. I thought it was ment to be downloaded manually.
All i have is the folder structure.

I did nothing special.

Here my download window:
downloads.gif
That download the scripts only.
And during build the scripts did a download of at least 300 MB.

If I change in the download 'Main Configuration'
  • Build Model > Normal
  • Boot Manager > Standard
it works.

That is what I meant with deliver a version which runs w/o the user having to adjust something.

Peter the changes you've had to make to make Vista work, indicate that you don't have sufficient ram in your VM/computer.
With the standart configuration you need at least 350MB to even get to the decktop, Nightman even says 512MB are needed.
With normal (non wim boot) the required ram drops to 256MB according to Nightman.

It does not even work with VirtualBox 712 MB (I just changed the '5' of standard VBox memory 512 to '7')

That virtualBox thing doesnt work for me eighter, don't know why everyone seems to like it so much.
Try VPC or VMW.

And I do not want to test / debug here.
I only want one project for download which runs w/o adjustements (besides source, of course)

Let'S see.
I have lots of trouble linked to my beta Vista source.
Besides that there are only minor issues with v10.
- Slax and Nightmans Linux not showing up in the boot menu.
- LiteStep starting up with 2 error messages.

That's it everything else worked fine.

V11 worked even better, except that desktop shortcuts were missing.

it was not very good idea add slax to VistaPE project, i plan remove it from v11 and can add other linux, if anyone need it... may be i make other separate project for Slax, but i not use it and not have time for making scripts for all modules, will be very good if anyone can help with it

I don't understand why you choose to add Slax as modules. I would simply add the Slax iso image. That reduces the size of Slax fom 700MB to 178MB.

what (Litestep) errors do you have?

I've got errors about missing file (msvcp71.dll) and missing module (mzscript1.0.1.dll).
Problem solved by using VistaPE11 LiteStep script and some adaption of the script.

ps can you post your log file with version 11 and WAIK as source?

Standart-6-postconfig.script gives me the following error message:
D:\Winbuilder_VistaPE11\Target\VistaPE Beta\Windows\system32\bcdedit.exe was not found. bla bla bla...

Attached File  log.rar   96.72KB   297 downloads

I get the black screen too, when i choose in ram(boot.wim) . I found that the file boot.wim (in target folder) can not be open with 7zip as it should be. Tested with Wb72, wb74, vistape script 10 & 11, virtualbox, virtual pc up to 1gb ram. Only in normal mode i make vistape work.

Thanks, booty!
I'm sure that it IS the same problem.

But as I'm an old man, I forgot that fix test I made on fly.

And just that is the reason I opened this post: 'For Dummies'.

The script should either create the necessary rights, or at least tell the user what to do.

tnx Booty, NTFS permissions seems to be the problem. I moved wb root to C:\ . VistaPE boots from ram at last.
