Hi well Iwasnt sure where to put this so feel free to move it if necessary
I'll get right to the point

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807
Its pre-installed OS is Windows Vista home premium 32-bit

I bought and installed a new HDD shows no noticeable problems there.

The laptops DVDrom is physically destroyed.
I have a USB diskdrive, and both recovery disks, should be simple.. well I lost. T_T

I set my BIOS to boot from the USB diskdrive, this worked.

The disk automatically boots to the recovery console which has several options
all but one being useless since the HDD is new, clean, and empty.

Toshiba recovery wizard is the only option that will not crash the system
however, once selected it prompts me to insert recovery disk 1 and hit next.
(this disk already being inside the USB disk drive)
Pressing next does nothing as if there were no disk in the drive.

There seems to be no way past this no other options nothing else i can manipulate,
the only other option is Cancel.

I do not know why it will not continue the process, I can only guess its trying to read the original diskdrive.

Next I have an external HDD which I can also boot from just obviously it does not have an OS, so no luck there.

Simply put Im out of ideas, there is no code to run no options to change, seemingly no way to force the laptop to continue reading the usb diskdrive. making matters worse
my wife is baring my from pouring any more money into this.

So any ideas?

I have only;

A usb diskdrive (it is compatable having worked before the new HDD was installed and booting the recovery disks),

A USB external HDD, (I would attempt to lodged an OS on here but cant find a Compatible Free one.)

The original Recovery disks In pristine condition.

A few Blank DVD+RW.

A very weak netbook. (ahem* my wife's)

and the internet.

thanks for any ideas or solutions anyone else can think up ^_^

Each manufacturer has it's own ways to make recovery CD/DVD's.

We need to understand how the original disks are made to try and convert them in something that can work from USB HD.

You should go to a computer that can read the CD/DVD's and (assuming that internal drive is C:\ and CD/DVD drive is D:\ - change letter accordingly) open a command prompt and type in it:

DIR /S D:>C:\CD001.dir

incrementing the number for each CD/DVD.

Compress the resulting CD00n.dir files into a .zip or .7z archive and attach it to your next post or upload it to a file hosting service and post the link.

A couple unrelated, but similar examples, to get the idea:

Alright results continue to remain elusive

As the files are compressing when the process gets to 27% it stops and a pop up window comes up saying "this disk is not configured to work with this machine (1000H)."

the same message which appears when the disk is inserted.
didn't occur to me something like that was possible I'll try on a different comp soon.

Wait , you don't need (or let's say I didn't ask you to) compress the files on the CD/DVD's, I asked you to compress ONLY the two .dir files resulting as output of the DIR command.

We are talking of a few kilobytes of data.
