Does anybody know if filedisk can be used as NTBOOTDD to redirect HD i/o to somewhere else, for ex. USB HDD?
Thanks

NO, filedisk or any other similar driver can only map a file on an already accessible device as a filesystem.
- i.e. the "source" is a file rather than a Physical device, whilst the created "target" is a Physical (and logical) device

Noone tried (or reported) it's use as NTBOOTDD.SYS, I personally think it can be done, though I cannot say how, a similar approach is the one I try to find helping members for here:
http://www.boot-land...?...ic=1441&hl=
If someone finds the right Registry keys, similar to the ones euhenio found for ramdisk.sys, it would be possible to load a disk image as boot disk.

The development of a device driver for USB has been attempted by Dietmar several times, you'll find reports of his (unfortunately :P ) failures on the "main" USB thread at 911 CD forum:
http://www.911cd.net...o...c=14181&hl=

Start from here:
http://www.911cd.net...o...c=14181&hl=

or search on the board posts by me and Dietmar with "ntbootdd.sys" as keyword.

P.S.: I would like to keep this thread "clean" with just references to the programs are found, do you mind if I move this and your posts in the other thread:

Go ahead, I don't mind :P
Though, maybe it should be a new thread, something like "Filedisk booting".
PS
Maybe somebody from MSFN could be interested in such development.
