And I guess you need to be a bit more pragmatical: WHATEVER it is, did you try it?
Does it solve your question?
Not a difficult question, a Yes/No is enough.
There is this SVGA patch also:
http://www.msfn.org/...ode-t69569.html
but cannot say if it works outside Safe Mode.

Sorry can't answer that question, as i have no Win9x running anywhere. It's for a friend of mine, who wants to fiddle with 9x. I just thought that spending any time on Win9x, is a waste of time, if one can't even get a screen resolution above 640x480. Thus my question.I was actually suggesting SciTech Display Doctor 6.53, rather than UniVBE (which is a DOS app), Display Doctor should be the "windows 9x equivalent" of UniVBE.

Thanks for the link if the patched version of SVGA is really able to run, not only on (very) few computers like the original, i might take up fiddeling with 3.1 again.
Last i did this was in the last millenium!
Win3.1 the most fun OS to use for a live CD.
Install everything to a HDD and then burn it to CD. Done!
Well actually DOS is more fun, but there is no browser around for DOS that can really access the majority of webpages. (Unless you like to correct me on this one. )

I know and love Arachne, but even in the most recent version, it does not support JS, which is a must on most sites these days unfortunately.

'VBEMP x86 ProjectDoes some universal video driver exist for Windows9x, which supports more than 640x480?
Universal VESA/VBE Video Kernel-Mode Driver (for Windows 9x/NT x86 Architecture)'
For Windows 9x "famliy" - http://www.boot-land...?...ost&p=15187
As an option, SciTech Software Inc released commercial version of a similar driver (SciTech SNAP Graphics ENT) for Windows 9x. Personal (6-month trial) version you may get after FREE registering at http://my.scitechsoft.com/navigate.php.
Supported video chips: http://scitechsoft.c...n_chiplist.html
It also supports newer video chips as they are VESA-compatible.

To chime in rather late on this, the quickest easiest and somewhat legitimate solution for this is to just replace Win9Xs VGA.DRV with SUPERVGA.DRV.
800x600, still 16 colors unfortunately but at least it should work on any card thats not totally ancient.
