Ok, a win98 comp with the 'good' usb driver, can't remember link to it, but research had shown it was an ok universal driver. (not the Win98Se one though)
Edit, That one?
Mem Stick in, ok, copy files to/from, ok.
Windows 98 Freeze, CTRL-ALT-DEL screen, do ctrl-alt-del to reboot or wait.
I waited, a bit. Then went for combination.
Now the originally FAT 32 stick 'is not formatted, do you want to format it now?'. Tried a few pcs, xp too. I DID NOT format.
Then opened up in Hxd. Files on stick are still there. (up to a certain point)
The whole boot sector is empty, actually a whole good 24550 sectors are empty, or full of e.g.:
YA..ZA..[A..\A..]A..^A.._A..`A..aA..bA..cA..dA..eA..fA..gA..hA..iA..jA..kA..lA..mA..nA..oA..pA..qA..rA..sA..tA..uA..vA..wA..xA..yA..zA..{A..|A..}A..~A...A..€A..
Tried Grubinst, 'Grubinst can't ..'.
Looked into Rmprepusb, I don't wanna do '6' just now, Prepare/Format
I could, I assume, try a testdisk.
Anyone with an idea? Thanks,
Plus the files I could just do a photorec, or copy the HXD hex to a file.
+it is a fake, so the whole disk is seen now, not just the good partition.
Actually, title shouldn't be "Pb after usb stick pullout, Windows 98 ", but "usb stick problem, Windows 98 freeeze", subtitle generic driver, bs out.
R.
