I try to boot to DOS from USB memory. When Dos starts i have a drive letter C: but I can not connect to it. It is probably my usb key. The error is in UBCD 5:03 freedos boot Cd and hirens Cd Dos. I have tried to mount the onboard HD:s with NTFS driver and there is no problem with that. I need to access my usb memory but i can't figure out whats wrong?

If I boot from a USB flash drive containing Hirens Boot CD 13.2 as an ISO, then select DOS Programs and then Next - then Dos... and then Dos - it boots to an R: ram drive. If I then type dir C: I can list the contents of my USB flash drive that I booted from.
Can you describe what happens. If it boots to C: then you should be able to type dir C: and list the files on your USB drive.

My USB-key is fat32 (sardu). I can boot dos and get the drives A: B: C: Q: (freedos). Then i start NTFS for dos and get D: and E: (my laptop HD:s) but trying to access C: ends up with unrecognized characters in folders.

I'm booting with syslinux...

A: is the "bootfloppy" the *.img content

B: is nothing

maybe it does not like the way it is formatted. Try using RMPrepUSB to format a key as FreeDOS bootable + Boot as HDD. Freedos boot files are included with the RMPrepUSB download in a folder. See https://sites.google...torials/freedos.

I will consider reformat but I have 12 GB Data on my USB key so it takes some time.

Sounds like you have the wrong codepage loaded in DOS.

I know for sure now that my C: drive is actually the usb-key (same serialnumber). Trying to test the codepage suggestion but i have some problems to get bootdisks. Dos 6.22 doesn't support Fat32 and so on...

Hi guys ,

more or less same problem i made my bootable usbkey ( ntfs ) with grub4dos and a freedos image , all works fine but i can see only A and B .

Is there a way or workaround to navigate inside the usbkey , internal hdd (sata)or other devices like optical device ???

I tried with RMPrepUsb procedure and the result is the same

I don't use DOS much these days so just guessing, does Freedos even support NTFS?

I have solved part of my problem. I reformated the usb with HP format and installed syslinux directly from the syslinux package. Now i have Hirens dos stuff but Freedos still doesn't work.

DOS (*any* kind of DOS) has NO "native" NTFS support.
You need a NTFS filesystem driver.

There are quite a few, some Commercial, some Freeware/Free.

Whether any of them will actually work specifically on FreeDOS is up to you to find out.
