Found a video on Installing Android 4.4.2 KitKat On PC, Computer and Laptops.
He is also using Rufus (utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives).

i see @ 3:08 his boot menu has option to boot as live CD.
what I would be most interested in is booting from USB on PC but not live so you can save changes. anyone know how to do this?

not exactly "news", and it can be installed to an USB device:

After seconds of booting, you will see a partition selection dialog. You can choose an existing partition to install Android-x86, or you can create or modify partitions by choosing 'Create/Modify partitions'. Note you can install Android-x86 to an external disk like USB drive. If the target drive is not shown, try 'Detect devices'.

thats booting an .iso from USB so no persistence, i would like to be able to save changes.

That is a note to "hard disk install" specifying that the target hard disk can also be an external USB device.

i missed that. anyone know if it can be added and booted from a grub4dos menu on USB?
a nice novelty if nothing else.

To be picky (as I am), twice.
You missed that, I pointed you to it, and you insisted on missing it. 
Since the original installer seemingly installs GRUB (the real thing, i.e. what the good Linux guys now call senselessly GRUB Legacy), surely it can be booted through grub4dos.

LOL! yeah thats right. now I wonder if it will boot on different systems (how universal it is?)

You can also Try Remix OS. It is also based on Android x86 Project and currently its version is Android M.

I was able to install Android Marshmallow on a physical partition not too long ago, in the hopes that my ultrabook's touchscreen would work. But it didn't. My mouse (touchpad as well as USB mouse) didn't even work. I had wanted to be able to use it on a screen that is much larger than can be found on any phone/tablet.
