I cant find an Android firewall that provides the option to control all inbound and outbound connections individually.

AFwall successor to Droidwall seems to be the best you can get, its better than nothing I guess but not what I would consider a firewall by any means.

is this as good as it gets?

thanks

Yeah, I was looking about a week ago and they all seemed a bit limited to me, either having to just completely whitelist or blacklist installed applications manually. Probably if you know what you're doing you can manually edit the iptables config but that's hardly user-friendly (and beyond me).

Not that PC firewalls are great, at least the free ones. I'm still reluctantly using Comodo (after trying all the others and finding problems with them) but the rules list is a mess, with it reading from top to bottom but adding new rules (created by popup) at the top and frankly it's a nightmare to check/manage. It's been pointed out to them at least a year ago but they don't seem to think it's a problem.

I miss Kerio 2.1.5 :(

yeah! what happened to "there's an app for that"?

This firewall issue is why so far.. I just cant take Android seriously! it is beyond me how most people will use this all the time without giving this a second thought. And it is their phone too FCOL!

I could never find a suitable replacement for it either and it is also one of the reasons I am running XP as we type ;-)

yes I am a bit of a control freak.. and so Android is not so impressive when it is limited to non-internet functionality only but I kinda figured this would be the case and thats why Im so late to this party. just not much of a googley gobbler I guess.

but so far this tablet is not much more than a multi-media player device but I do plan on networking it with an offline wifi router, DVR and IP security cams.

hopefully at some point I will find a solution to the firewall issue and be able to trust it in the wild. when/if that happens then I will finally get a smart phone LOL but until then my phone is only a phone.
