Hi all,

It's been some years since I've visited Bootland/Reboot...

To be honest, my first opinion of the site is that it's a huge
mass of (important) information, much of which I would use
or read up on...

But I can't see where it all fits in... there is no ...'structure'
to the site... the first thing I get is a huge scroll-down of
'recent activity'...

If I were a 'noob', coming here to find out something simple:
Lets say 'How do I make a bootable USB stick, please...' ...

I would look at the 20+ 'recent activity' things I had to scroll
down through before I even got to a list of applications/forums...

and then I would go somewhere else.

There is a lot of technical info at reboot.pro. I understand that.
There are a lot of clever people contributing to some very
complex, and useful projects.

But if all that a person coming to the site for the first time can
see is a mass of very technical forum posts... all that news, all
that hard work, is for nothing. Because they will leave. They will
go to some 5-year-old website, that has a big banner that says:

'Click <THIS> to be shown how to make a bootable USB stick'.

And that's a great shame. because they may end up learning a
very outdated, awkward, way to do something that a tiny tool
or app from the Reboot website could do for them in 5 seconds.

Please, do not think that I am complaining, I am NOT!. I personally
have been in I.T since 1988. And for 15 years before that, I was an
Electronics Engineer in the Royal Navy... I will persevere, and find
my way past the mass of info, to the utilities and projects that I like
the look of, and feel I can contribute to...

But I do not think that a lot of new visitors, no matter how technically
proficient they may be, will try to force their way past the massive...
(I'm sorry... SPAM is the only word I can think of...) that is the front
page of Reboot.pro...

Please consider ... just... simplifying the first page for new visitors.

Regards,

Grumpy Old Techie...

Well said , though I would suggest simplifying it for ALL visitors ;).

I thought I saw an option to hide that section in the profile settings, but I can't find it now.

I found it. Many thanks, Trip...

My eye's aren't bleeding -quite- so badly now... perhaps
just making that option by default for new accounts or
casual visitors, would be a good start...

Grumps.

For me it looks quite well structured now. Still no previous Recent Comments pages despite promise.
