how do i boot things like Partition magic, True image, say Ghost/DBAN - HDD wiping software, etc from GRUB4DOS? what files do i map to or chainload?

partition magic can be booted from my install CD but i don't think all files are needed. there are .img files that i can create Boot FDD from but there are 3 (2 are for each FDD and 1 more i am not sure for what.

for true image, there is a file f11.cfg
[start]

echo Starting Acronis True Image...

initrd ramdisk.dat /s

kernel kernel.dat quiet

quiet on

mbrcrcs on

vga vesa

[continue]

sysboot /active

[bootmgr]

echo Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager...

default continue

delay 30

bootmenu 389

i think this might help? lines 2 and 3? can i translate that to GRUB4DOS commands?

for DBAN, the "DBAN for installation on floppy disks and USB flash drives" states

The USB booting capabilities of many computers are incomplete or broken. Most
computers capable of booting from a USB device require that it report a
removable media type, and that it be unpartitioned and smaller than two
gigabytes (so that the BIOS can boot it like a floppy disk).

If the drive letter of your USB device does not appear in WinImage drive list,
then it is an unsupported media type. In particular, most USB+IDE bridge
implementations are unrecognized, which means that a 2.5 inch hard disk in an
external USB enclosure is incompatible.

can i do something else? its a linux so maybe somehow GRUB4DOS can do the job? and i have attached the syslinux.cfg as a txt file

The best way to load anything that comes as floppy is to load it as floppy image, using either direct grub4dos loading of images or the memdisk chainloading.

If 2 floppies are needed you should make a single 2.88 floppy image of them.

Search on the Winimage forum:

for similar topics

and on both boot-land and 911CD for posts by me, diddy, aec or spacesurfer with keyword "memdisk".
