here is what i have:Still in your case, you will have the same issue about drive letters if you move the partition (from first to second MBR entry) and you will need to correct them in the Registry as told.
let me know if the screenshot does not appear for you, i had to use a different host because the other is having problems right now.
i extended the panel wide as possible to see all the characters but it didnt work. some are off the page but hopefully all of them are not needed.
im not sure how to proceed.
edit: i went ahead and restored the original Vista image with clonedisk and then booted into acronis TI11 from usb and reimaged the Vista then restored W7 with clonedisk image.
next i booted into acronis again and with only the W7 partition present i applied the Vista image next to it. acronis made the new partition and even let me extend it. (this is a feature that would be great to have in clonedisk)
next, booted XP from usb then backed up the mntd devs key in P2 vista, then totally cleared it, used PTEdit to mark P1 to type 27, marked P2 active then booted it up. the Vista booted fine so I rebooted into Vista again and extended P2 to 50GB and then shut down.
booted XP again, PTEdited P1 to type 07 and set it active then rebooted into Vista to from the W7 BCD. Success!
then rebooted back into W7 to be sure it was still OK. yes, so now it is dual booting.
so all in all I probably should have just used acronis to start with here. Im not sure why clonedisk wasnt working out for me this time but Im pretty sure the fault is on my end and not with clonedisk. oh well. time to move on.. hope my friend enjoys his OEM fresh Vista and new W7 Ultimate x64 dual boot system!
still need to make a data storage partition with the remaining freespace but im nearly certain that wont be a problem. lol
but thanks for your help anyway as usual Wonko, I think i will be looking at .wim jobs for this kind of stuff from now on. didnt quite comprehend what all the fuss about .wim was until today!
