Explanations are in order!
The question is "What on earth is BootSDI"?by the "The Fantastic 3 & 1/2" - A Quickie note to amalux, I looked at my first attempt at writing an "Overview document" & then compared it to the latest release & although I may have compiled the "E" Book both you, Jaclaz, & Galapo have provided most of the content & direction. It is for this reason I would call it a joint effort, "we will sink together, or swim together on this production LOL!" Anyway, many thanks for all the contributions!
The answer, I hope you will find in the attached BSDI.ZIP file below & also in this following quote to wet your appetite?
Basically you will be downloading an "E" Book (A self contained [.EXE] executable portable file that will run from just about anywhere) or electronic book which is essentially a html file complete with Hyper links, both internal to bookmarked chapter headings and URL links to external web pages. The "E" Book has a "Contents Headings section which permits you the user to jump to any chapter & then once you have read the relevant section, jump back to the "Contents section" e.g. [Return to contents] to assist quick easy navigation. There is a toolbar header with self explanatory icons to aid you in the usage of this "E" Book. The "E" book will open with a Splash message "Welcome to BootSDI" depress "OK" & the Book will open, to close you will be given a further splash message "Bon Voyage", again depress "OK" & the "E" Book will close. The SDI kit is a large file, akin to say, ibmbio.sys
It is loaded at 07c00 because that is the position that the chip expects to find boot code.
Once it is loaded, it creates a ramdisk cdrom, and unpacks boot.wim into it. The ramdisk is held in memory and the keys are passed through to the ramdisk driver. The image is then started. Specifically, control is passed to the nt kernel (ntoskrnl.exe), and it takes over loading things. The edi code is then dropped from memory.
SDI loaders are used in some other architectures.

N.B. I have found one minor niggling bug in the software that runs the "E" Book when you depress the "Back" button (from visiting an external URL link) on the top toolbar you have to depress it twice, otherwise it will not reload the the page!
Remember this is an "Overview" NOT a "How to" of BootSDI. Look upon it as companion information to tutorials like amalux's
"Newcomer's Tutorial - LiveXP with Optional BootSDI!" found here http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=4111
All that is left to say is ENJOY!
Regards & Best Wishes,
Ladies 1st! Wendy, Jaclaz, amalux, Galapo & ispy
