That's a new direction for "Win install from ISO" techniques development. I wonder, if MS may soon offer installing Win8 natively from ISO as well, since CD-drives become less frequent nowadays in new PCs and Laptops. How to use Win8 native ISO mount at install from a ISO file?

Judging from what is written on the given blog post:
http://blogs.msdn.co...-vhd-files.aspx
it seems nothing much different than the right-click option we now have with IMDISK, only fully integrated in the Explorer (or Ribbon or whatever).
The question is if the underlying driver is/will be like IMDISK a non-bootable one or like Firadisk/Winvblock a bootable one (and/or if it's use will be integrated in the BCD/whatever as an available boot choice).

Win8 Dism.exe does mount VHD files, but no ISO files.

I guess VHD driver support ISO files too.The question is if the underlying driver is/will be like IMDISK a non-bootable one or like Firadisk/Winvblock a bootable one (and/or if it's use will be integrated in the BCD/whatever as an available boot choice).

A full integrated solution require bootmgr support too: define ISO file at \boot\bcd. However I doubt support at Win8.
A half manual approach would be nice so far. Boot a default boot.wim, mount ISO file at diskpart.exe or dism.exe.

Does Windows 8 provide VSS drivers?
http://reboot.pro/6492/
If I recall correctly they also allow .iso mounting, but the whole point is still whether the "whatever" driver will be integrated in the "boot mechanism".

CD and DVD image files (ISO) are not supported before Windows Developer Preview and Windows Server Developer Preview.
