The title tells no news, and since the date of XP's dead I still live with it, without getting the unrequired updates by Billy the door.

I still do my whole work under XP (dayly officework, C++ dev, Delphi dev, java dev) .

I thought I could do so a long time.

But now there is an event which makes my work difficult.

I have some other OS: Mobile and tablet android; Win7, Win 10 and Mint 17 test. All of these are connected to DropBox. The only item I use with dropbox is my KeePass database.

Soon in august dropbox wants to finish to run under xP, maybe on suggestion of Billy the Gate.

Forum, please help me, to find a clowd program which can replace dropbox. Just for sharing keepass. I do not want to share my documents, pictures, videos etc, like most clowd programs do (w/o chance of suppressing).

Our friend google did not give me usable suggestions right now.

Our friend google did not give me usable suggestions right now.

Our friend google gave me this (when asked politely ;)):
http://alternativeto...ftware/dropbox/

But it is likely that before or later these (or their clients) also will be dumbified to exclude XP users.

Given your (simple) requisites and your experience/capabilities, wouldn't using some form of "netdrive" be a valid alternative in your case?

You could host a disk image on your own server, and at the most you will be using the last XP compatible version of the "client" (insecure because without latest updates, you should really get a modern OS, using a better security model,  bla, bla, bla) but since all in all it will be an "in house" operation that should be not a problem.

Another answer by our friend google:
http://alternativeto...tware/netdrive/

Wouldn't something like FTPUSE or dokan SSHFS  or FTPdrive do in your case?

http://www.ferroback...tp-as-disk.html

https://github.com/d...dev/dokan-sshfs

http://www.killprog.com/fdrve.html

There would be no problems from Linuxes with Fuse/CurlFtpFS, or with SSHFS.

The issue may be Android, I quickly found this (SSHFS):
https://play.google....9k.sshfsandroid

but wasn't able to find a FTP fuse tool. :unsure:

I think a netdrive is a good alternate and TeamViewer could be used also with XP.

Also a webserver may represents a solution and It could be built in Linux/Android, within a RaspBerry PI.

Besides, since there is an Android version of KeePass, too (for example, KeePassDroid), these two app can share the same password database.

I usually use the same KeePass database with the tablet/smartphone, where KeePassDroid is installed.

I think you can upload/download files to/from dropbox using web browser like Firefox which can run in Windows XP SP3.

I don't use cloud service for KeePass.
I keep the main copy of KeePass data in my phone and secondary copy in my PC.
KeePassDroid lacks some editing features but its database can be copied to PC for editing and copied back to phone.

According to Dropbox help article ( https://www.dropbox.com/help/9227), only "Dropbox desktop app" will stop supporting Windows XP. You can still access your account via dropbox.com.

@ Peter,

sorry for my intervention (my post above). It was just too much instinctive and, consequently, I recommended some solutions much more complex than they needed.

Effectively, by attentively reading the official announcement from Dropbox , it says (see last notes) :

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April, 2014. We are ending our support of the Dropbox app for Windows XP to keep our product offerings in-line.

So, as also karyonix observed above, it seems that only the Dropbox desktop application will be stopped...while the access through a Web server dropbox.com will remain.

A few notes about Windows XP.

  • Was designed and written before Microsoft began taking proper internal development security into consideration.
  • Historically one of the most severely exploited software only surpassed by Flash and OpenSSL.
  • No longer receives any kind of fixers for security.
  • Exploits, no matter how severe are no longer reported
  • Exploits can no longer be detected by security software due to the above 2 points.
  • Software companies are ceasing to support XP (not at Microsoft's request, but because it saves money to not support an officially unsupported system.

It's good to know that the workshop calibrated accurately my crystal ball ;):

I believe that members of the board would be already familiar with all the reasons to drop XP, but still some of them insist on using it nonetheless, for *whatever* reason, JFYI :), a recent discussion on the matter:

Sure he was, and he is one currently using XP (notwithstanding it being obsolete, insecure, bla, bla) besides machines running  NT 4.00 and Win 2K, because he is stubborn and reckless (and also cheap, old and grumpy, but these are unrelated).

News are that he also has a Windows 7 machine.

Guess WHICH one is giving him a lot of troubles with neverending Windows Updates with svchost.exe using up to 50% CPU?

Friends! Thanks for stressing your mind :thumbup:.

In spite I did not find an universal "modern" solution yet. So I built my own "Stone Age" solution. :wheelchair:

I created a SFTP server on my web space, which only contains the KeePass database.

Currently I'm creating batches on all my different OS PCs, which download that database, start KeePass and save the database after all, when changed.

The difficulty is that, depending on the host OS, I have to use WinScp, cURL, ???, ...

But that will only be a question of some days ... :pressure:

KeePass already has native support for standard HTTP/FTP/WebDav

plugins are available for a number of other providers

Personally I use the KeeCloud plugin for KeePass. it takes a little bit of setup (API key from dropbox, create triggers, etc) but it will automatically sync your KP database to dropbox or google drive or Amazon or many other "cloud" storage providers.

KeePass2Android app also supports dropbox/google/whatever so you have your pw on the go as well.

Thanks homes32, for your post.

Can you do me a favour? I think it is a lot of work to do the setup here.

Do you have the possibility to check your config under XP Sp3?

Or are you currently already working under XP?

Peter

BTW: I'm trying to get more info about HTTP/FTP/WebDav

1. Install the KeeCloud Plugin
2. Open your keepass database and navigate to Tools > URL Credential Wizard. Follow the wizard to get an API key from dropbox
3. if the wizard worked correctly you should now have a keypass entry for KeeCloud Dropbox credentials. find this entry and note the exact title. you will need this coming up.
4. Copy the following XML code

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TriggerCollection xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
	<Triggers>
		<Trigger>
			<Guid>roJGz/08I0ihxRxlgajBMA==</Guid>
			<Name>Save database to dropbox</Name>
			<Events>
				<Event>
					<TypeGuid>s6j9/ngTSmqcXdW6hDqbjg==</TypeGuid>
					<Parameters>
						<Parameter>0</Parameter>
						<Parameter>C:\KeePass\Database.kdbx</Parameter>
					</Parameters>
				</Event>
			</Events>
			<Conditions />
			<Actions>
				<Action>
					<TypeGuid>tkamn96US7mbrjykfswQ6g==</TypeGuid>
					<Parameters>
						<Parameter />
						<Parameter>0</Parameter>
					</Parameters>
				</Action>
				<Action>
					<TypeGuid>Iq135Bd4Tu2ZtFcdArOtTQ==</TypeGuid>
					<Parameters>
						<Parameter>dropbox://KeePass/Database.kdbx</Parameter>
						<Parameter>KeeCloud Dropbox credentials</Parameter>
						<Parameter>blah</Parameter>
					</Parameters>
				</Action>
				<Action>
					<TypeGuid>tkamn96US7mbrjykfswQ6g==</TypeGuid>
					<Parameters>
						<Parameter />
						<Parameter>1</Parameter>
					</Parameters>
				</Action>
			</Actions>
		</Trigger>
	</Triggers>
</TriggerCollection>

5. Open your keepass database and navigate to Tools > Triggers
6. Check the box to enable the trigger system
7. Click the Tools button and select Past Triggers from Clipboard

8. Select the newly created trigger and press the edit button

9. on the Events tab change the path to point to a local copy of your keypass database

10. on the Actions Tab select the Synchronize action (should be the 2nd action listed) and click edit

11. Configure as follows

File/URL  = dropbox://path_to_database_on_dropbox

IO Connection - User Name = EXACT title of the keypass credential from step 3

IO Connection - Password = whatever you want. this value is not used

That's pretty much it. KeyPass should now sync the database to dropbox every time you press the save button

I'm a long time XP (Windows Embedded Standard 2009) user and also have Windows Embedded Standard 7 x86 both installed on a hp SignagePlayer mp8200s hardware based of hp Elite 8200 USDT platform

As system partitions are protected by EWF, i use a cloud storage and iSCSI Target storage.

I hightly recommends

STRATO HiDRIVE CLOUD STORAGE

https://www.strato.de/online-speicher/

data is stored in our TÜV-certified data centers in Germany and secured in accordance with the requirements of the German Data Protection Act - one of the strictest in the world.

They have connection software for all phones including one for my Lumia Windows Phone 8.1 device!

https://www.strato.d...rsync-etc..html

for Windows XP, you can use SFTP protocol with

WinSCP

or

Swish Easy SFTP for Windows

or Windows XP Web Folders

My Network Places target:

https://<myHiDrivediskID>.webdav.hidrive.strato.com/

or

Map HiDrive cloud storage as a Drive in File Explorer using this command:

net use <DRIVE_LETTER> "\\<myHiDrivediskID>.webdav.hidrive.strato.com\users\<myHiDrivediskID>" /USER:<myHiDrivediskID> <my_password>

Edited to add some links and more connections examples
