Hi all ,

Just a quickie found this little gizmo whilst chilling out, called ghostwall, what makes it attractive is that it is portable & also script writers for PE plugins prefer portable kit.

Anyway not only is it portable but it is also "freeware", on the downside I do not think you could call it the best firewall on the market but it is small in size, weighing at a modest 656Kb's.

Has anyone had experience with it, but if it is portable then it can be carried around on a USB2 Stick?
GhostWall is a firewall which allows you to restrict the communications between your computer and others.

Unlike other firewalls which have forgotten their main role, GhostWall is simply a firewall mainly designed to replace the standard Microsoft firewall with better features and performance.

Maybe worth checking first whether the enthusiasm is being advocated by only yours truly or do you think others would like to see a portable section also?
My reasons for the love of portable software broadly encouraged for the following reasons:

• Not that this a portable reason but I like freeware portable stuff especially for obvious reasons

• The least pollution of the registry the better, some utils however are more portable than others

• You can carry them around on a pen stick and thus run them from just about any location

• Script writers prefer them as they are easier to write scripts for

• Also much easier to uninstall as all files should be in one location

Good find - just installed it to PE on the fly and it works nicely. Tested it with nmap and it does what it says.
Rule creation is easy and straightforward.

Would that be a good idea. Wouldnt the firewall need to listen to all things coming and going. From what I read a ThinApp has the ability with the new ThinApp Program to link to things but I dont know about a firewall working well ThinApped. Guess some one has to test it out.

I have Thinapp on my PE and can easily test some things.
Just tried Zonealarm Pro but here the created package didn't work.

ZoneAlarm 5.5.94.0 I've found to work well in PE. I haven't tried Max_Real Qnx's 7.1.078 yet though.

I am having problems with thinapp whenever I capture the installation of an app that needs to run a service - so far none of those apps worked

Personally I don't see much use of a firewall on PE - I occasionally use m0n0wall - a small FreeBSD LiveCD (6Mb iso) in a VM when I need to dial DSL
