Sometime happens that my computer suddenly shutdowns. it's like the electricity is cut up from the machine, like if I unplug the plug from the socket. the power go away and the computer turns off, it is very hot when that happens. my computer is 5 years old and it's powered up all the day. Maybe it is a setting of the bios that turns it off to protect the components of the computer from burning? what do you think about that?

Check for fans not working, look inside too. If CPU is too hot, replace the thermal paste http://www.techpower...icle.php?id=134 It's easy to do and makes all the difference! If power supply is overheating or shutting off intermittently, replace it (also easy to do).

thanks, unfortunately my pc is a laptop and I never assembled a pc on my own. I've only disassembled them (they were broke pc) the only thing I have done by myself is to replace my external hardisk (50GB) with that one that there was on the old pc (300GB). I've watched a lot of video and I think I've learned how to assemble a computer and I think I have learned but I'd like to do that now with someone that is capable to do such things so I can became more indipendent

I understand, laptops are more difficult to work on (some are impossible). If you've never taken a PC apart before, I wouldn't start with a laptop. Maybe just blow out and vacuum the vents for the cpu heatsink/fan, usually near the corner/bottom of case. Check if you can see/hear the fan running; if not running, take it to a repair shop. If it keeps over heating/shutting down, take it to a repair shop before more damage is done.

yes the fun is running. this is my second PC. I had two pc, a Desktop and a Laptop (that is having this problem). My Desktop is gone because it used to restart always without showing the bios, it was like a disco a lot of leds (cd rom leds) lighting...the repairman said that it was the Power supply and it needed to be changed. He also suggested me to change the Mobo because it was getting old and the transistors (?) were growing up on dimension. The PC would be became unusable after one year and as he was very old I decided to do not repair it. It was upgraded recently! I changed the HDD with one of 300GB and added a 1GB module of ram. So before putting it away I removed the Hardisk of 300GB and I put it in the external case replacing the 40GB HDD that there was in there. that was my first attempt to disassemble a functional PC :)
