First time using the isostick and I'm having a heck of a time getting it working. I have an older 4G MicroSD card from Kingston. I plug in the isostick on my Linux (Arch) machine and it appears as an external drive. Checking the format of the drive, fdisk lists it as a type b, W95 FAT32 type single partition. I tried formatting it using mkfs.vfat. The green LED shows activity, then it stops working completely. I get an error like this:

kernel: [ 578.593553] usb 2-5.6: USB disconnect, device number 9

kernel: [ 578.599562] sd 10:0:0:1: [sdd] Unhandled error code

kernel: [ 578.599572] sd 10:0:0:1: [sdd]

kernel: [ 578.599576] Result: hostbyte=0x01 driverbyte=0x00

kernel: [ 578.599582] sd 10:0:0:1: [sdd] CDB:

kernel: [ 578.599585] cdb[0]=0x2a: 2a 00 00 00 08 f0 00 00 f0 00

kernel: [ 578.599601] end_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 2288

At that time, the isostick appears to have switched to the "emergency mode" by itself, and then I can see it with the isostick-updater tool on device ttyACM0. Could this be a bad microSD card? I wish I had another one with me right now to test, but I don't at the moment. Anything else I could be missing? The firmware shows Revision 1617, so that is current...

Hmm, it could be a bad card or a bug in isostick's firmware. I'm going to assume the latter until you can find another microSD card to try, or another reader to test that card in. I'll do some testing today or over the weekend and see if I can reproduce it.

I'll try it when I get home from work, I know I have a spare there...

32G card is working fine. Either the old 4G card is bad, or the isostick doesn't like it for some reason. LOVE this thing btw, I just wish it had a cap for the USB plug...

Woot
Perhaps a cap at some point in the future, maybe. ;)

As the good MS guys would say, this is "by design" ;) (at least in current version), JFYI:

Verified working to boot both a Linux and Windows ISO using ISOSEL. Should this work in a VirtualBox VM? No matter what I try, it doesn't seem to boot to the device...

isostick detects when you're in an OS instead of a BIOS and disables isosel, which is why it won't show up in a VM.
