YES. :dubbio:
http://homepages.tes...no-answers.html

The downloaded files are renamed (at least on my machine) as ETboot.partn.zip when downloaded.
If you open them in 7-zip "as-they-are" you cannot access all the contents.
If you rename them to ETboot.partn.rar, you can.
I tried re-downloading the first three parts and adding in the same folder the fourth part I re-uploaded, like:
  • ETboot.part1.rar
  • ETboot.part2.rar
  • ETboot.part3.rar
  • ETboot.part4.rar
Now opening ETboot.part1.rar in 7-zip I can access ALL contents (including the .pdf) allright.
Try doing EXACTLY the above steps and report (I suspect there is "something else" right now since IF the .pdf is corrupt, THEN probably other "key" files are corrupt - or better said extracted incorrectly - as well ;))

Hi Wonko

First of all thanks for taking the time to reply much appreciated. The odd thing is I've done what you have said and I have tried opening & extracting with 7zip, izarc etc and they all say that the pdf file is broken and there are crc check errors see below:-

7zip data error in 'ETBoot Tutorial.pdf'. File is broken

Izarc File fails CRC check

All other parts and files seem fine just the pdf seems a problem.
It's probably just me or something I'm doing wrong. I did a CRC32 check for the part 4 and got this d90901cc if it's any help. I'll say "yes" for you to avoid the link Ha Ha!

Cheers

On "my side" CRC32 is as well:
  • ETboot.part4.rar CRC32 checksum: D90901CC

The mistery gets thicker....

The "other" CRC32's are:
  • ETboot.part1.rar CRC32 checksum: AF371DE0
  • ETboot.part2.rar CRC32 checksum: 8491C1B6
  • ETboot.part3.rar CRC32 checksum: 5E5E6598

Are you SURE you opened in 7-zip EXACTLY ETboot.part1.rar (AND NOT ETboot.part4.rar)? :hi:

Now opening ETboot.part1.rar in 7-zip I can access ALL contents (including the .pdf) allright.
Try doing EXACTLY the above steps and report (I suspect there is "something else" right now since IF the .pdf is corrupt, THEN probably other "key" files are corrupt - or better said extracted incorrectly - as well ;))

The .pdf is anyway attached. ;)

Let's hope that's the only "problematic" file...

The CRC32's are all spot on, thanks for the pdf. I must have missed something I'm assuming I need all the parts you gave 1-4 I tried the pdf in part 1 and part 4 with 7zip. In part 4 there is the tutorial also but all say pdf is broken. Are the parts all required for the tutorial or are they versions?

Cheers

AGAIN (and this is the THIRD time ;)):

Are you SURE you opened in 7-zip EXACTLY ETboot.part1.rar (AND NOT ETboot.part4.rar)? ;)

Translation:
  • If you open ETboot.part4.rar in 7-zip and try to extract the .pdf, it will give you file corrupted.
  • If you open ETboot.part1.rar in 7-zip and try to extract the .pdf, it will give you the correct file.

WHAT is so §@ç#ing difficult? ;) :P

TO EXTRACT FILES FROM A MULTI-PART .rar FILE, YOU PUT ALL THE PARTS IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AND OPEN FIRST FILE (AND NOT ANY OF THE OTHER ONES)! :dubbio:

Easy Wonko there is no need for little red demons, Like I said I tried them both. I can extract the pdf from part1 using 7zip and its exactly the same size as the one you just sent me, however the crc32 check gives it a different code so when you open it it says it's broken.
You have kindly sent me the file and I appreciate it so I won't trouble you anymore.
I'm new to your blog so there is no need for chanting red demons. :hi:

Thanks again

Hehe! you were using different browswers!

I tried in Chrome, got the Neogio problem,

tried in Iexplorer, no prob!

False positive.

(Sometimes browsers do change a file if right click-download, rather than click directly, no?)

Crcs are broken (7z). I will read the whole thread then.

If you open ETboot.part1.rar in 7-zip and try to extract the .pdf, it will give you the correct file

I am getting a broken Crc.

I am getting a broken Crc.

Doing WHAT?
With WHICH files?
:frusty:

It worked here, it works right now (just checked ;)) and will probably work in the future.

It must be the good air we have in Italy .... :whistling:

I wonder WHAT is the problem. :dubbio:

Instructions in a hopefully fool-proof numbered step-by-step list :

Probably, the good Italian air!

Change the extension of all files from .zip to .rar

They are .rar already, for me. Can't find the verify button. I can test, which gives broken CRCs.

Yeah sure, verify, test,I fell in the trap of translating back from Italian to English.

Which browser are you using?

Hint: If you are using anyone but Opera :worship:, it is the browser somehow corrupting the download or using (and Opera does not do this ) the "zoneidentifier" streams.  :frusty: (which may  be connected to the issue)

I am correcting the hopefully fool-proof guide in an attempt to make it even more fool-proof.

Cool!

Which version of Opera are you using though? I tried Opera mini Usb (google),

still crc broken.

Wget same.

Also, thanks for the posted .Pdf. (available also here).

I read it. Would a ewf .reg be a solution for Minixp?

Bear in mind this last 'idea' is not thought through..

Opera 12.10 1652, but obviously in the previous attempts I have used earlier versions.

I have no more ideas/ways , are you sure you followed the mentioned steps EXACTLY, to the letter?
Better if you re-read them ATTENTIVELY, this is VERY UNLIKE them:

Downloaded part1.
renamed to .zip.
Test button.
Crc file broken.

You have to download ALL FOUR files, have them in the SAME directory and renamed accordingly to the instructions to:
ETBoot.part1.rar
ETBoot.part2.rar
ETBoot.part3.rar
ETBoot.part4.rar

I find really strange (to avoid saying impossible) that it is not repeatable.

Yes. ewf is the way to go (if the idea is to have an image hosted on a RO support).

Cross-posting. See prev. post. And thanks.

I've seen it.

BUT it doesn't make sense (in the sense that it represent NOT what the instructions say to do).

Heck, they are a simple set of 9 (nine) steps before getting the result, can you please trying following those 9 steps EXACTLY?

Wonko
