Hello,

sorry for my bad English, I'm from Germany.

Not that bad :) (said from an Italian ;)) though I don't understand what is your final goal. :dubbio:

1) Does anyone use Symantec Ghost on Windows PE?

Yes.

http://homepage.ntlw...no-answers.html

2) Which Version of WinPE?

Any (1.x/2.x/3.x/4.x and possibly 5.x)

3) Which Version of Ghost?

The last one actually working, the 11.5 version, later versions are only "called" Ghost but they are a completely different program:

https://en.wikipedia...28Ghost_11.0.29

http://forums.whirlp...archive/1949828

4) Why do you use Ghost?

I normally don't use it, but I have used it and from time to time I still happen to use it where it is available, but there is no particular reason to prefer it over similar software, if not, depending on the way it is used, being maybe a tadbit faster than some similar programs. .

5) Can you send a screenshot?

Yes.

But you can find many already online yourself:

Ohhhhh :jump:

The reason why i ask is: I still use BartPE with Symantec Ghost 8.0, but on many newer machines it didn't work good and XP is very old. Now I want to build a new PE with a new Version of Ghost, because i have many .gho- Images that i want to restore on difficult machines.

What can you recommend me? Which Project of WinPE? WinPESE....? I think Windows 8.1 is the best way.
Which version of Ghost can you recommend me?

regards,
kuemmel

And why you don't use Ghost 11.5.1?

And why you don't use Ghost 11.5.1?

Because I don't own a license for it, but it happens that I work with organizations that still have a licensed copy.

All versions of Ghost have been discontinued since 2013:

and in any case they clearly stated how no version of ghost is actually compatible with Windows 8 (let alone 8.1), the issue is - I believe  - connected to some changes in the NTFS filesystem that the ageing Ghost doesn't deal with nicely in some occasions .

All in all if you want to "update" your toolbox, you can nowadays find "better" tools, obviously I am partial to Clonedisk (freeware) developed by erwan.l, a member of reboot.pro:

http://reboot.pro/fi...e/24-clonedisk/

http://reboot.pro/to...d-on-clonedisk/

but there are many other valid Commercial or Freeware tools.

Okay thanks for help. Beside Symantec Ghost I use Drive Snapshot:

You can start the tool in a command prompt, for example with a Windows 8 Installation-Disk.

Actually it just the DOS version of Ghost that was discontinued, the Windows compiled Ghost32 and Ghost64 are still available.  The most recently released version is part of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 3.  The version of Ghost32/64 is now list as 12.XXX, versions previous to this would NOT backup or restore  EFI / GPT systems. The new version 12 does.  Unfortunatly it's still a massivly overpriced, confusing and poorly documented mess.  Part of the "suite" is a backend server that can serve up images and hold them. We elected to NOT use the back end Ghost server and just use the Ghost backup clients writing over the network to a file server or even a locally attached USB drive. We just buy a Ghost license for every computer we get in.  We have a massive inventory of Ghost files that we need to keep using so the support for EFI is a real godsend as we are getting more and more 64 bit Windows 8.1 PCs that boot EFI, servers too.  While there are other packages out there none seem to match the simplicty of Ghost.

I use them with my Windows 7PESE and 8.1PE.
