Dear developers,

Does somebody of You know about The procedure, which would enable me to restore offline Windows from an restore point?

I mean Windows 7, not WIndows XP.

I have issue, that special tool from Microsoft, which can enable me to restore The system can not be fully run from WIndows PE environment. It will reboot The system and i can not use screen reader to choose an restore point to restore Windows 7.

I know, that XP system can be only restored from commercial tools from Microsoft

MSDaRT.

And i can not find official link to access The download page from Microsoft.

It is sad, that i can not restore Windows 7 because special tool from Microsoft do not allow me to choose The restore point from running WIndows PE environment.

Does somebody of YOu have An advice?

This should be possible with the new WinBilder's "RecEnv" application.

The new WinBuilder is still in development, but there is a "nightly" version available for download at http://winbuilder.ex..._2014_11_14.zip.

I'll send you the password by PM.

A "please": When you have the new WinBuilde version, please send comments, suggestions, etc. to enhance it to visible impaired people.

To hear something wich is not "seen" by NVDA:

After starting WinBuilder, execute "TTS smart" and restart WinBuilder. This will give you some vocal information abot WinBuilder's actions.

To install NVDA, create a portable NVDA copy in <BaseDir>\lib\plugins\Accessibility\NVDA.

Execute "Install NVDA"

Excecute "Source"  and define a valid Win7 source CD extraction directory.

Execute "Auto"

Dear Peter,

Very well done.

Will be NVDA started automatically? Or i must use Windows and R key to run NVDA?

Would You explain me, which tool could I use to be able boot .iso image created by Yours project from bootable USB flash drive?

You have used Grub boot manager, but which tool could i use to make my bootable USB stick with live system on it?

Last think.

How to use recenv.exe?

IS it GUI program?

Did You develop it, or somebody else on The net and i did not know about recenv recently?

Thank You very much for Yours answers dear Peter.

Dear Peter,

Congratulations!!!!

Yours project is fully usable and produces perfect PE environment.

I can run NVDA and You have even incorporated not only USB audio drivers but also Oracle VM virtual box sound driver.

So i can try without USB flash disk because i do not know how to prepare bootable USB stick with resulted live image.

Unfortunately, Microsoft recenv.exe is designed for sighted users, so if I choose use system restore, Recenv will instruct me, that i must restart my computer, choose The operating system and then I would had to use system restore but without The possibility to get An feet back from The computer because in this mode, screen reader can not be used.

So my findings.

I do not have chance to use system restore even with Windows 8 or Windows 7 if system is corrupted so severely, that it will not enable boot to The standard Windows.

So blind users must use backup tool to create An system image because they can not use recovery tools to restore system from An previously created restore point if system is so severely corrupted, that only safe mode or even none Windows mode can be used to load it successfully.

It is The reality and there is no possibility except uses Microsoft recovery toolset, but this tool is coded so it can not be used from PE, because some pirates have put Hirens boot CD some years ago with Preinstalled ERD 2003, so powerful Winternals and Microsoft have done their est to disable users to run systemrestore.exe from The recovery toolset from PE environment.

But Peter, i know, that solving this is out of our possibility.

So.

1. You have prepared 100 % legal and very fast live project not only for sighted users.

2. Yours program is combining Java Access bridge with Festival voice feetback, so blind users can use Yours tool effectively, I will try it with Linux tomorrow to see, if Orca will be able to read data from edit box.

And i will accept The fact, that blind users will never be able to use all thinks like A sighted ones.

Yrs, i would had to use Android device with OCR capability to read screens and may be, that i would be even able to choose AN restore point from The calendar. It is not very comfortable, but it is very probably The only one possibility to solve some issues related to Windows and not only Windows OS.

2. I would had to buy special device, which transfers electronic analogue signal from monitor out connector on The graphics cart to The image, but this device costs some hundreds of US Dollars.

Then, I would had to use OCR to read some inaccessible screens.

It is inpossible to run system restore from An offline OS from live PE without using Microsoft recovery tool set, but toolset is incompatible with PE environment.

Dear Peter,

I have one plea to You.

Would You try to add

UFD

command to Yours Winbuilder so users would transfer The live system to bootable USB flash stick?

You could use The same dialog window like after command for selecting source is being used. Because this dialog box is fully accessible with screen readers. User must be clever so if somebody will select his bootable partition, he will overwrite Windows MBR with The GRUB MBR or Windows NT if You would had to use ntldr to launch GRUB.

For some reasons, You did not use BCD to boot from .wim.

I think, that The reason is that You had to use other algorithms for compressing data inside .wim files so Yours Java program do not depend on imagex.exe from WAIK.

It is not issue, but please, try to think about algorithm, which would enable us to transfer data to bootable USB stick.

There is even An possibility to create .iso image so it will be hybrid .iso image, Linux distros uses this algorithms.

In this cases, .iso image can be transferred like a raw data by using DD in Linux of Winflash or other tools from Windows.

Unfortunately, according to my opinion, it would not be easy task to make this think from java source or find some tool, which would enable YOu to make hybrid .iso image.

Yours project produces stable environment, NVDA newest stable version work smoothly from this environment exactly according to YOurs instructions, blind user is able and will be able to create bootable live system.

How to use recenv.exe?

Just start in the running Win7PE <Start button> Programs Recovery Recenv.

You'll get the standard windows recovery GUI.

What you can do here, depends on the saved configurations of your standard boot OS.

Dear peter,

Yes, You have absolute right about Recenv.

I must only accept The fact, that I can not apply previously made system restore point from Recenv while running PE environment, because powerful Microsoft CORP have designed Windows itself and recovery console by this way.

But i have found some OCR tool for my Android mobile phone so i will experiment with it.

It is sad, that recenv can apply previously system image made by previous backup, but system restore point can be only used when You restart Windows so out of The PE with screen reader support.

Thank you very much for Yours time.

I cannot confirm that.

My pc has a partition with win7, where I previously set a restore point for the actual content.

To test, I made a Win7PE containing NVDA and recenv.

I wrote the ISO onto an UFD, prepared with rmprepusb / easy2boot and booted from this UFD.

The started recenv showed me the initial GUI, and NVDA explained every line in the recenv window.

Going on, new windows appeared, and NVDA could read and tell them all.

Finally I could restore my win7 to the latest snapshoot.

Dear Peter,

So I would really be able to select The restore point from running PE and system will restore The system while running recenv? So it is perfect.

So by The other words, i can perform system restore with screen reader support while running PE project so system will not reboot and i will not have to choose system restore point without feetback provided by screen reader outside The live PE environment.

So I must apologize Powerful Microsoft and all of You in this forum.

I Am stupid man, I tried recenv with empty virtual harddisk and i choose system restore, and because i had no operating systems in The list, system offered me to restart computer and use The system restore.

So Peter Thank You.

I have last two pleas related to Yours live environment.

Would You redesign The scripts so explorer.exe will not display folders and drives in treewiev mode?

I can not switch it to list and i like standard wiev which exist when user uses Windows 7 operating system which is installed normally.

I hope, that it would not require many coding.

I like standard wiev, not treewiev.

Plea 2.

Would You add runscanner with remote regedit link and with The run with run scanner context menu item?

I want to experiment with Avast shell extension for scanning folders, drives and files for viruses and i think, that runscanner will help me.

Thank You very much.

I do not understand standard / tree view mode. Can you explain?

I'll have a look to runscanner. When possible, I'll write a plugin.

Dear Peter,

Lets try to describe recenv and performing system restore from The previously restore point in detail.

Firstly, recenv is searching for all Windows installations and it can suggest The repair, i have chosen no repair, because my system boot normally, I want to try system restore point rollback.

In next screens, i can explore with NVDA, that there is link

system restore

But this link will only inform Me, that after restart I must choose An operating system and than I can use system restore.

It will not help me, it will run out of The PE with NVDA.

There is An read only editable field, which inform Me about system restore.

Peter, I think, that Recenv really firstly reboot The computer and then user must choose system restore point from The list but screen reader is not being running at This moment.

Yes, recenv allows You to perform The system restore, but user can not choose The restore point from recenv while running it from The live PE.

Or did You see previously created restore point and did You hear NVDA which speaks The name of The restore point? Have You been in The live PE environment at this moment?

It is The issue, that recenv recalls reboot and after reboot, system restore point can be chosen, but not with NVDA.

Or is there An object which NVDA can not speak to me so I can not find The list of previously made restore points?

Thank You very much.

Recenv can only work when you really have a win7 partition with restore points visible to Win7PE.

Then the name and drive of the partition is visible (and NVDA hearable) in the list. Make your choice in the list and continue.

For a test, you can create a new restorepoint named TEST in your Win7 system, and restore from Win7PE to this restore point.

That's the way I tested, and it did not bring any harm to the running system.

I got the behaviour you explained, when I booted Win7PE in VirtualBox. There is no win7 partition visible, and RecEnv suggests to reboot etc.

Oh Peter,

Recenv fould Windows 7 installation and recenv automatically offered me to repair The system.

But I think, that recenv expect, that i will use The same version of Windows like version which have been used as source for creating Windows PE live project.

So restore points are really displaied as a link but i will try to generate 64 biT live build by using Windows 7 SP 0 64 bit as source. BUt sound erivers may be will not work, if You are including 32 bit drivers inside some script files.

The next possible scenario is, that user must create restore point before boot to live PE, so older restore points will never be shown.

I will try to experiment with recenv, because it is amazing tool.

Of course only existing restore points can be restored.

They must be created previously in the well running OS, either manually or by system, e.g. before updates.

IMO recenv restores files and registry entries. They should be architecture independent. But I do not know ...
