I need help in creating a Win7WinPE file as a multi purpose emergency disk that will allow me to boot a broken Win computer to restore it to good health. I have several programs that offer their own emergency boot disks usually using Linux. I would like to create one master boot file that will allow me to combine the power of four favorites: Windows Emergency disk, my favorite backup program, my disk partition manager, and my free file recovery program. The plan is to combine all these fine programs in one emergency boot disk instead of multiple disks.

Please help me go from where to go for this help and where and how to look in this site. What you need to know about me, my system and my level of prior knowledge and where do I give this information. I am 75 and built my own machine.

I would like to work with anyone willing to help. Whether you are an old, rusty Tin Man needing occasional squirts of WD40, or a sweet, young, bubbly Dorothy with red dancing slippers, I will gladly hold your hand and dance with you down that yellow brick road singing our way to success!

First off, the title is a bit misleading, since this doesn't pertain to "blogging", but here are the broad strokes...

If you just want to combine the existing ISO's into a single "media" to carry around, then something like XBOOT or SARDU would be a good place to start. They help manage the process of creating a multi-boot environment.

Are you more interested in learning to build your OWN "PE", then dive into one of the many "projects"...If you are an XP oriented person, there are projects for that - or if you are a Win7, or even if you are a Multi-PE kind of person...So browse around a bit in the WinBuilder section.

Go read the docs on WinBuilder - it is an "engine" oriented toward building these kinds of boot environments, and in addition to the projects, there are application scripts...There *might* be ones that support the tools you already use - again, browse around in the forum, and see what you can find.

BUT, if you decide to go this route, START simple - crawl, walk, run...Download a project, and build it WITHOUT ANY CUSTOMIZATIONS...get that working, then start to "tinker", and augment it. If you get stuck, post something in the specific project area, and be ready to post a log file from the WinBuilder engine's output of the build.

Again, spend some time reading past postings, since almost any issue you can think of has been asked and answered...

Since I uploaded my request I have looked into WinBuilder and opened and printed the instructions from Irongeek.com. This file is very complicated and much more than I had expected. It will take me a couple of days to digest all the instructions. That is why I printed the file. I get lost opening too many windows to try all the links. I do wish that the WinBuilder's type could be enlarged to a more readable size. I am currently allowing by cateracts to "ripen" so they can work on them. To see it all I have to use the Magnifier a lot, but it too is hard to read because the fonts are very fuzzy. But don't worry - I might be limp like the scarecrow, but I still have courage!

Not much we can do about the size of the font inside the executable - limitations of the libraries used, etc. BUT, you should be able to enlarge the scaling of the PDF of the tutorial...Good luck, and look forward to seeing you back here again with some more questions.
