I see.Ah I c said the blind man lol ,
I am trying to make a bootable usb xp drive , one like what I remember BartPe to be I had a cd years ago, long gone, but alas after 2 days of constant d/l'ing and trying (including bartpe) I am no closer to my goal!
I am working on and old Dell inspiron 1200, the HDD is no good and I have removed it, the cd player is iffy at best runs when it wants to, it only has 256mb DDR1 ram, (yes it's old 2005) so I am left with using a flashdrive , (8GB PNY mini attache) for my temp os until I see if there is anything else wrong with the unit. I have a OEM winxp disc. I don't think this laptop could handle vista or win7
You have a "reverse" attitude.Winxp to run off a usb drive on the laptop. why is this so hard?
It all depends on your current skills/knowledge and on the amount of time you wish to dedicate to this.If you can be of some help inthis quest I would appreciate it, thanks

I see.
Problem is that you will need "another" PC to build the stick.
You have a "reverse" attitude.
:dubbio:Officially and according to Microsoft, running XP from a USB device is IMPOSSIBLE.
A number of peeps - nothwithstanding this - made it possible.
So the point is not about being sad because it's hard, it's about being happy because it has become possible.
It all depends on your current skills/knowledge and on the amount of time you wish to dedicate to this.
If I were you I would try first thing the "fully automated way":
http://www.usboot.org/tiki-index.php
If anything goes wrong, second attempt would be using wimb's little app:

before going all the way down to the basics (Dietmar's Stoelting tutorials).
In any case, should you need support/help, please start a new thread here:

As said, you should be happy that it has been made possible at all, as opposed to be sad and rant about it being hard ...Reverse attitude? I know I'm old but what is a reverse attitude?
Let's see what happens, please start a NEW THREAD if you have porblems, we have hijacked this one enough (sorry Max_Real QnxI am trying your suggestions doing usboot now quite length hope it does it for me!
