http://partedmagic.comThis version of Parted Magic fixes some bugs and adds some new features and programs. There was a scripting error that cause debs not to load in some situations, mkfstab was moved later in the booting process to stop the new fstab from being overwritten by the one from the "Save Session" package, and partimag user was added by default for partimage. The fstab daemon now detects device mapper RAID partitions while removing the unmountable mirrors from /etc/fstab. GParted and mount-gtk correctly display and mount these partitions. Our tools use the /dev/mapper nodes created by GParted, so run GParted and then you will see your DMRAID partitions in mount-gtk. Added support for new package extensions .tbz, tlz, txz. Numlock is set to "on" in and outside of X by default. Parted Magic is slightly larger this time around because there wasn't a squashfs-lzma patch that seemed usable for Linux 2.6.29 and squashfs 4.0.
We added wipe-2.2.0, dmidecode-2.10, mg (mini-emacs text editor), reiser4 kernel patch, boot_info_script, Chinese fonts, removepkg, unarj-265, and hardinfo-0.5.1.
These are the packages with a fresh upgrade: gparted-0.4.5, syslinux-3.80, hdparm-9.15, squashfs-4.0, linux-2.6.29.2, dosfstools-3.0.2, module-init-tools-3.7, glib-2.20.1, gtk+-2.16.1, udev-141, glibmm-2.18.2, vte-0.20.1, roxterm-1.14.2, fsarchiver-0.5.4, grsync-0.6.3, busybox-1.14.0, testdisk-6.11, lxpanel-0.4.0, e2fsprogs-1.41.5, firefox-3.0.10, lftp-3.7.13, file-5.03, hdt-0.3.3, xfsdump-3.0.1, xfsprogs-3.0.1.

I use from grub4dos the "3.7" version (as "pmagic" folder) and it works fine (with the "keymap=xx" line/command), but it seems to me that in "4" releases then the "keymap" command is not working.
If I run the "setxkbmap xx" command from "ROXTerm" under "4" version then it works fine, but how can I do that automatically at "Parted Magic 4" startup?
Please, note that during the PM loading then in the log-screen it shows as "keymap xx" correctly loaded, but then it is not really working...

keymap=be-latin1
This set the keyboard layout to be-latin1 (outside of Xorg) and to be, inside Xorg.
Look at the contents of the file in /usr/bin/pmagic_set_xkeymap and see if the keymap that you specify at keymap, has a corresponding setxkbmap value. Which keymap value do you use?

I'm trying to use the "IT" layout, and as said through roxterm it works (and yes, it exists in related folder): could you report to me the exact lines and version you used (however I've already tried all suggestions from your signature links)?
The following are grub4dos's entries working under "3.7" release
title Linux Parted Magic 3.7
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/pmagic/bzImage noapic root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc keymap=it liveusb vga=791 sleep=0 quiet xvesa tmpfs_size=350M ramdisk_size=25000 directory=/boot
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/pmagic/initrd

Can you test keymap=it2 and keymap=it-ibm too?
Boot the failsave option and test if the keys in the console correspond with your keyboard layout:
KERNEL /pmagic/bzImage APPEND noapic initrd=/pmagic/initramfs load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 rw vga=normal sleep=10 acpi=off noapic nolapic nopcmcia noscsi nogpm consoleboot nosmart keymap=it2You have an Italian keyboard layout, right?

Thank you very much for your reply.

If I replace "keymap=it" with "it2" or "it-ibm" then the result is the same: in the log-screen appears the following line
Loading it (it2/it-ibm) Key Map DONEbut then the keyboard layout is not really loaded (just as already said about my previous "it" command).
If I replace the whole string with your suggested then it loads... until an error as the following
Warning: unable to open an initial console kernel panic - not syncing: No init found Try passing init= option to kernelWaiting for the "it" layout full support about the "4" releases too...

The keymap is loaded, but this keymap only works in pure console mode (do logout ==> Exit X-Windows (can be named a bit different) ==> Select Exit in the menu). It uses the loadkeys program. To set the correct layout in the graphical interface, you need setxkbmap. The names of the layout are not the same (at least not in most cases) for loadkeys and setxkbmap, which is a pain in the ass .If I replace "keymap=it" with "it2" or "it-ibm" then the result is the same: in the log-screen appears the following line
Loading it (it2/it-ibm) Key Map DONEbut then the keyboard layout is not really loaded (just as already said about my previous "it" command).
The last test version should work now when you add keymap=it.

For the record I can confirm that when I ran the 4.1 iso or folder from my UFD "if I run the "setxkbmap it" command from "ROXTerm" under "4" version then it works fine".
I also can confirm that the "pmagic-4.1.iso" works fine from my UFD except for the IT keyboard layout issue and for this reason I actually use the 3.7 release.
Thank you for your efforts.

The related entries in my "menu.lst" are as the following (just as suggested here http://partedmagic.c...so-booting.html ) and on the other hands they are perfectly working with "pmagic-4.1.iso" (except for the kb layout issue).
title Parted Magic find --set-root /boot/pmagic-svn.iso map /boot/pmagic-svn.iso (hd32) map --hook root (hd32) kernel /pmagic/bzImage noapic load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 rw vga=791 sleep=10 loglevel=0 keymap=it iso_location=/boot initrd /pmagic/initramfs map --unmap=0:0xff

title Parted Magic
find --set-root /boot/pmagic-4.2.iso
map /boot/pmagic-4.2.iso (hd32)
map --hook
root (hd32)
kernel /pmagic/bzImage noapic load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 rw vga=791 sleep=10 loglevel=0 keymap=it iso_location=/boot
initrd /pmagic/initramfs
map --unmap=0:0xff
If you download the last version now, just extract the iso and don't change the name.

I also tried to rename the last release as you suggested (pmagic-4.2), but it still hangs.
However it seems to me that the "last" version is "pmagic-svn.iso-29May,221745.zip" yet.
Thank you for your support.
Edit: just tested "pmagic-4.2.iso-01Jun,212359.zip" and "pmagic-grub4dos-4.2.iso-01Jun,212359.zip" as ISO (pmagic-4.2) and as folder (pmagic): they hang again in the same above manner.

ram_console: buffer (null), invalid size 0, datasize 4294967284
2nd line
ahci 0000:03:00.0: device not available because of BAR 2 [0x00_0x07] collisions
then a couple of screen-data ending on the following line
sd 7:0:0:0: [sde] Attached SCSI removable disk
where it hangs.

The above same two first lines resulting.
This time hanging on
Code: Bad EIP value
EIP: [ <00000000> ] 0x0 SS:ESP 0068 : f68e7dc0
CR2: 0000000000000000
---[ end trace bd81bf00c3c2297c ]---
With keymap=us command, the same result.

Just due to a my sudden small doubt : please, tell me if you like that I continue to test Parted Magic ISO in this thread or if you prefer any different way. Thanks (for the support too).

1st line
ram_console: buffer (null), invalid size 0, datasize 4294967284 (really for "datasize" there are other values now, but I think it probably is not matter)
2nd line
ahci 0000:03:00.0: device not available because of BAR 2 [0x00_0x07] collisions
then
ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen
...
ata3.00: status: {DRDY DRQ}
then
Buffer I/O error on device sda(/b/c/d), logical block 0
end_request: dev sda, sector 0
with a (presumably) endless log...

The same first two lines, then it recognizes and configures my USB devices and S-ATA HDs (I thought this time it worked, because it seemed to run smoothly), but it hangs on
sdc:<5>scsi 7:0:0:0: Direct-Access Corsair Flash Voyager 0.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
Please, note that the Corsair UFD is just the running drive and that this time the cursor (underscore) is not blinking.

Recognition of running USB drive (with 2 partitions) too is now complete (probably ending on "Assuming drive cache: write through"), but then it hangs on
sde: sde1 sde2
sd 7:0:0:0: [sde] Attached SCSI removable disk
with blinking cursor and Ctrl+Alt+Del working (if pressing it reboots).
The first two lines are always as the previous ones.
Btw: I would be curious to know if it works in other configurations.

Now the 2nd line is disappeared, so there is just the 1st line
ram_console: buffer (null), invalid size 0, datasize 4294967284
then
Waiting 10 seconds for devices
sd 9:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache : write through
then
EXT3 fs : Unable to read superblock
and at the end (in red color)
It seems the media that contains the pmagic.sqfs could not be found
Exiting to shell
Just for the record: if now I enter "reboot -f" then the keyboard layout is EN-US.

Keyboard layout finally works fine too: many thanks!
For the record it works with the following entries in grub4dos "menu.lst".
title Parted Magic 4.2 find --set-root /boot/pmagic-4.1.iso map /boot/pmagic-4.1.iso (hd32) map --hook root (hd32) kernel /pmagic/bzImage noapic load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 rw vga=791 sleep=10 loglevel=0 keymap=us iso_location=/boot initrd /pmagic/initramfs map --unmap=0:0xff
Edit: please, note that (until a rectified release will be uploaded) the just extracted "pmagic-4.2.iso" has been renamed as "pmagic-4.1.iso" http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=8254.
