Hello,

ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html), the project aiming to create an open source version of Windows is running for a sponsorship of 1000 Euros in Germany that is provided by a local bank. In order to be eligible, the project needs to gather a substantial votes from supporters.

I already voted and I would recommend other folks in our community to also do the same.

If you like this project, vote at:
https://verein.ing-d...-deutschland-ev

Take care!

I am not getting the e-mail.
Maybe it is reserved to German addresses?

I'll wait a little bit more....

Maybe also non-German people get a German text e-mail to confirm their vote.

Maybe it is not seen by non-German people: You have THREE votes. Just vote again after finishing the confirmation.

It looks like an interesting project. Appears to be run by only one guy, who mildly claims compatibility with NT6 between other words. And clearly asks for $1 mln so far. :) I wonder if his efforts will be contested by MS if seemingly successful user wise down the road... :hammer:

Aleksey Bragin - why don't we ask for a million backs next time to re-implement NT? :dubbio:

At least Smiley and Colin Finck from this community are very active on the ReactOS project.

Smiley recently added theme support to the project and Colin is one of the promoters of this initiative in Germany.

Running a project and participating in it as a volunteer contributor - means different things. :money:

I might be wrong, but it seems to be a common knowledge for NT Architecture be integral part of Windows OS family, developed and extensively patented by Microsoft. While non-commercial efforts in its reverse-engineering (as well as other relevant Windows code) are often ignored by MS as a matter of policy until result in massive profit drop, I doubt the future of ReactOS will be without cloudy and particularly rainy days. :)

Sure :), but then WHO is the single guy that runs it?

Glad it worked. Many of my messages also get stuck by filters and never reach the inbox, at least gmail seems to work kind of ok for this stuff.

Wonko

I thought, you're The Finder... Just read ReactOS own site attentively. :dubbio: And intellectual property rights (particularly own by MS) vivid protector - need links to your articulated testimonies? I read you're "too old and stubborn to change your way of being" as your Sig claims, but in fact you seems to be easily manipulated - not that stubborn at all, and hopefully young enough to upgrade your Commodore and become more relevant in your comments. :showoff:

Various Microsoft publications, including a 1998 question-and-answer session with Bill Gates, reveal that the letters NT were expanded to 'New Technology' for marketing purposes.

Implementation of the Windows API in ReactOS is done by means of a clean room reverse engineering process. This has been in place following claims made in 2006 by a former developer that the project contains disassembled assembly code from Windows.

The ReactOS Project administrators, coordinators, and participants are not required to make an active search for potentially relevant patents.

In other words, kids seems to polish programming skills by copying or re-coding MS developed and patented architecture and algorithms. I guess, smart way for investors to burn money. However, the idea of being able to run any Windows App in another OS sounds great, yet should have own legs and the bat to become a solid contender. :book:

I don't know what "articulated testimonies" are :w00t: and while I am a fierce sustainer of intellectual property rights I am not particularly "soft" towards MS, but I would like to know the source from which you gathered the info on which you based your statement:

Appears to be run by only one guy, who mildly claims compatibility with NT6 between other words. And clearly asks for $1 mln so far. :)

Since that sentence is actually made of three different statements:

Appears to be run by only one guy

one guy, who mildly claims compatibility with NT6 between other words

one guy, who clearly asks for $1 mln so far.

you are welcome to provide more than one source. :)

Aleksey Bragin: I didn't know that our developer would ask for a million bucks to "re-implement" Windows NT?

I see that you attribute freely to Aleksey (which is the project coordinator of React-OS) the words of the high school student Marat Karatov, one among the team of developers of ReactOS (not officially mentioned on http://www.reactos.o...ople_of_ReactOS ):
http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-14899507

The venture's project coordinator, Moscow-based Aleksey Bragin, said that the system was almost ready to go from the experimental to the available-to-all stage.

And a recent unexpected conversation between a high school student and the Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev could help obtain the much-needed funding to apply the final touches.

"Mr Medvedev visited a high school in the Stavropol region, and as a coincidence, one of our developers, Marat Karatov, studies there," said Mr Bragin.

"So Marat decided to use this chance and tell the president about our free, non-commercial initiative, and he also quite unexpectedly said that for the project to make it to the finish line we would need 1 mln euros ($1,370,184, £865,578).

I bolded a few words in the above quote, in order to make them more evident.

"Alexander Rechitskiy, a ReactOS community member that lives in Stavropol and who manages public relations and translations for Russian users was able and willing to make the trip....(to a school near Stavropol) and prepared Marat for the presentation. And everything worked out!"

I hope, it did. :)

I miss your comments though regarding possible issue with MS intellectual property rights as sited above... It was claimed (including by you) important for this site to avoid legal problems by possible facilitation of IPR violations. :photo:

Btw, you're quite often very unfriendly and discouraging, sarcastic as you say, to new Reboot.pro members, yet it had no consequences for you despite being against forum rules and noted publicly on many occasions. Why is that - what do you think? :dubbio:

Still it seems to me very clear how the estimation and request was a quite unexpected free initiative of Mr. Marat, that the project is a community driven project and NOT "run" by a single guy that wants 1 million (BTW € 1,000,000, aka US $ 1,370,184, and not "$1 mln").
And still I cannot find any possible source about the "mildly claims compatibility with NT6" :dubbio:

I actually have nothing to comment on the matter, sorry if you miss such comments. :(

I cannot understand anything of this:

What do I think about what?

I am also sarcastic with old Reboot.pro members, no classism/racism of any kind. ;)

Why is that?

I will explain.

Newbies are granted by courtesy some margin for mistakes on their participation. Personally, I have the opinion that Wonko is too nice on them. Most often than not he will point them on the right direction and give newbs a fair chance to escape trolling fairly unharmed.

Around here you are either a gold fish or a shark. If you mention "rules", beware they are rules of survival for newbies swimming in shark territory.. :dubbio: :fish:

Since Wonko is a nice person, he decided to write some rules (of survival) around here. Personally I'd have a lot more fun without them spoiling the fun part of my day.. :shifty:

If you mention that Wonko does not follow "rules", I am quite sure that Wonko is always right.

I suspect he follows rules yet to be written and seldom times discloses them. After all, one should note that Wonko swims these waters since the beginning of time.

That reminded me well cited Witness Protection Program. :smiling9:

I don't think however, a lot of newbies will be encouraged by his such behavior to keep advancing their endeavors and thus contributing to this community. :hmm: That calls for community patrol. :chair:

Btw, I've nothing to add on the topic of this thread. :suda:
