hi again everyone,

is there a common cause for booting to halt just after disk checking happens in xp? mabey something with the ICH9 controllers?

that is as far as I can get with my exsisting xp .ima

any ideas or BTDT?

.IMA is commonly a file extension for a floppy disk image file.

How did you build this image? Is it supposed to be a hard disk image? Does it have an MBR and partition table? What are you booting it with? A virtual machine? GRUB4DOS? MEMDISK?

hi Sha0, the image I made by using the zipped disk image files available here http://diddy.boot-la...disk_images.zip

it is supposed to be a hard disk image, after I unzipped it, I mounted with Imdisk then I copy/paste all the files folders from the usboot usb root drive to the .ima then I load the registry hive and delete mounted devices, then unload hive and then unmount .ima. then reboot and direct Grub4Dos to boot the .ima.

this proceedure works for a fresh xp image but not when I use it on my exsisting usboot-ized xp on the machine I intend to use it on that has ahci enabled and the ICH9 controller. however now I have tried the exact same .ima on another system with low ram.. it took forever but it did boot.

so its something to do with the ICH9 I think.. this system has been tricky from the start. Im ready doodoo's thread here http://reboot.pro/14130/ and it seems to be relevent to this controller but its alot to take in so thats why I asked.

Im still working on it but right now it seems the .ima will boot unless the sata/achi drivers are loaded but if they are not I cant access the internal hdd on the system so I need them loaded.

another problem I have is I cant load them with nlite for some reason it doesnt work and I dont have a floppy drive on this system. what does work is disable ahci in bios then install fresh xp on internal hdd then preform usboot proceedure to the fresh xp then enable ahci then on next boot the usboot sees sata hdd and askes for drivers then I am able to install them but once Ive done that, it hangs after disk checking when trying to ram load the .ima copy


if I had a different way to install the sata/ahci drivers I might could get it to work but none of the oem xp instal cds I have will even start to install with ahci enabled in the bios, I get BSOS 7b from every one Ive tried xp, xpw/sp2, xpw/sp3 and Ive tried to nlite the sata support in all three also with no sucess. there has got to be another way,no?

I'll start with the original hack for xp on the second link since I have the intel program but its no good when you cant boot without BSOD 7b error even with untouched xp instal cds and no floppy support.


Ive learned why it is so "tricky" though.. intel and m$ conspired to obstruct xp diehards!

that worked! (the outdated method on the first link actually) for installing the ahci drivers while ahci is disabled then go into bios and enable ahci and no BSOD booting xp from internal hdd.


but.. as it turn out I still had the same problem (halts after disk checks) that turned out to be the disply driver. as soon as I thought to disable it I got ram loaded boot!

Naah, only some good memory and a maybe better than average Google-Fu.

Heck, I am "The Finder" , don't you think there would be a REASON for this attribute?
