Nice idea. This prompted me to do an update to the VMWare Player script which was on the LiveXP server (slightly modified version of that supplied with nativeEx_moa-lite). Now the script will build from either Player or Workstation. If building from Workstation, Player is supplied alongside. This means that editing can be done in Workstation and playing can be done in Player. So it's not essential to have VMXBuilder for editing if building from Workstation setup. New script is now on the LiveXP server.VMplayer is just a ripped Workstation - if you run VMplayer and use Workstation-files you get additional features like editing and creating VMs with vmware.exe.
You only need the license to actually run VMs with vmware.exe - then you can use hot-snapshots and other WS-stuff.
The easiest way to get this - is install Workstation with trial-license and when it is expired simply keep the setup and only run VMs in VMplayer.exe.

Tried this VMWarePlayerWorkstation.Script Version=14
at me the script somehow doesn't work well
selected the RadioButton:
VMWare Workstation 6.0.1 - 6.0.5
but when click on the button 'Extract Files'
under the folder '%ProjectTemplates%\VMWare'
it doesn't create the folder 'FilesP2' but only a folder named 'Files%Index%'
also got an error message about that: the file reg2WBSprg.exe not found
(plus somehow I am not able to run a nested VM)

Sorry about the delay -- I've had wireless router issues all day as some new neighbours have moved in next door with an extremely powerful broadband router that has been interfering with my own signal.Tried this VMWarePlayerWorkstation.Script Version=14
at me the script somehow doesn't work well
New version has been uploaded which hopefully is now working as advised.

Probably I made something wrong,Post the vmware.log if you are interested in why the Vm crashed in the other test you mentioned
with a newer build of LiveXP using the new VMWarePlayerWorkstation.Script Version=15
(build from the files of VMware 6.0.4)
now cannot reproduce that error
now I can successfully power on the nested VM

Thanks for everthing. after downloading "vmware workstation 6.0.5" i installed 6.0.5 to my hostos, also i build livexp with "ws 6.0.5". I create a new virtual pc (.vmx) and Following your advice i add
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
line to the newly created virtual pc on my hostos.
Than make the build and boot iso,
Now i do not get "You may not power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine"
Instead i get error similar to dera's error at post 30, but dera wrote at post 35 "cannot reproduce that error"
Shortly:
vcpu-0:VMM fault: regs=0x2e2c, exc=14, eip=0x9ca60
With picture:
http://img360.images...63/snap1ye6.png
I use testlance.vmx:
config.version = "8" virtualHW.version = "6" displayName = "Mini Test VM lance" guestOS = "winnetenterprise" memsize = "8" scsi0.present = "false" usb.present = "false" sound.present = "false" floppy0.present = "false" monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE" extendedConfigFile = "testlance.vmxf" virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted" tools.upgrade.policy = "manual"
(also same error with default text.vmx)
Here is the log file
http://lancelot.winb...00810311633.rar
Reminding: I dont have VT
Maybe there is a light in the end of the tunnel, maybe only a mirage in the desert. You know better. Thanks for anyhelp.

Does that mean you don't get that error if you do not use the restrict backdoor parameter ?
How much free space do you have in the directory of the VM - try if setting a pagefile helps ...

No no, as i wrote in previous post i still use:Does that mean you don't get that error if you do not use the restrict backdoor parameter ?
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
without this i get "You may not power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine"
167GB free harddisk spaceHow much free space do you have in the directory of the VM - try if setting a pagefile helps ...
and pagefile already set to 4gb fixed (initial=minumm=4096)
i will follow dera's advice, but i have to download 6.0.4 first

If your board does not support VT nested VMs will only be dead slow - full boot of a XP guest can then take days !!!
