Hi

I tried to read the guide but quite difficult for me...

I have a laptop I want to refresh to save money (an old VAIO). I want to replace the HDD by a SDD. However the DVD drive is out of order.

So I tried to create a boot on a usb key, but whatever the ISO or the software I'm using to create the boot, I always end up with getting an error :frusty: :frusty: : http//grub4dos/chenall.net. Sometimes it says error 13, invalid or unsupported executable format. Or boot mger absent

Regarding the ISO, I have tried with 2 official ISO (this is Vista... sorry   ) or the original Sony Vaio DVD ISO, it's always the same problem...

Is there any good expert to help me please??

Thanks

Well where did you get the 'official Vista Install ISO' from? What is its CRC32 checksum or MD5?

What 'guide' are you following?

Are we supposed to guess what software you are using?

Thanks for your answer Steve

The OS I want to install is Vista

The other computer I'm working on is on win8.1

I tried with rufux and xboot (said the ISO is not compatible so didn't even do the boot).

I tried with Yumi and easy2boot and no issue with the ISO file. But then I have the grub4dos issue

I follow some basic tutorial in french like https://wikiclic.com/cle-usb-bootable/or https://www.malekal....e-usb-bootable/

I don't know how to check CRC32 checksum or MD5 I'm not that advanced

Thanks

Rufus is the best to use.

You did not answer my Q - where did you get the ISO from? I suspect it is not a Windows Vista install ISO or is corrupt.

You can download an app to find the CRC32

I tried with this one (1.5Gb)

https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=13158

And this one (0.5Gb)

https://www.microsof...ls.aspx?id=7120

I have a serial number! note that when I entered it on microsoft site, they don't want to create the exact ISO file, saying that because another company sold it (Sony; with other embedded sw), I have to address to them...

I also tried to convert my DVDn°1 sold with the laptop (the SONY DVD). 4.5Gb file, doesn't work more

Regarding the CRC32 i'm looking how to do it

ISO 1 and 2 are Service Packs !!!!  They are not Windows Vista Install ISOs and they are not bootable

The SONY DVDs will be very difficult to translate onto a USB drive - so we cannot use them

You need to download a Vista INSTALL DVD or CD.

I am reluctant to post illegal download links - but I had no trouble finding two using Google in about 10 seconds!
