GImageX is a freeware GUI for working with imaging WIM files providing an alternative to DISM. It can be used to capture, apply, mount, export, split and delete WIM files. GImageX is provided as a 32-bit and 64-bit native application that can be run even in WinPE. GImageX uses the supported Microsoft WIMGAPI API for working with WIM files.

 

 

This is the current stable version, tested on Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Notable changes this version:

    Compiled against the latest WIMGAPI libraries supplied in the Windows ADK for Windows 10 1803.
    Mount and Unmount operations now show progress.
    Added Split WIM support.
    Fixed mouse cursor busy / arrow issues.

It would have been nice if the Apply tab have the option to prep the disk automatically before applying the image so you don't have to drop to command line to run diskpart or a batch file to do it.

this is a bit of a old topic but for anyone looking, I created a Batch File process for this. Now, this is process is a bit dated in regards to the current Enviroment of WinPE but it could easily be adapted. 

 

This goes on the desktop of the LiveOS - FirstBuild.bat

 

diskpart /s X:\Users\FirstBuild.txt

Pause Please complete GimageX process...

X:\windows\system32\bcdboot C:\windows
Pause

 

which calls FirstBuild.txt, I just stuffed this in the User folder of the LiveOS

select disk 0
clean
create partition primary size=10240
select partition 1
format fs=ntfs label=Recovery quick
assign letter=I
create partition primary
select partition 2
active
format fs=ntfs label=Local quick
assign letter=C

There are also more up to date alternatives to GImageX which have this and other abilities

As a side-side note and JFYI, it is possible (and relatively easy) to embed diskpart scripts within batch scripts, so that you have only the .cmd (better than .bat), example:

A newer and more complete tool to deal with WIM ESD FFU and SWM images is Dism Mount Service from Retokener:

It can be used as portable and works very fine from a WinPE, (Do not require .Net framework).

 

I strongly recommend you to download GetWaikTools_v18.10.zip: Go to http://jfx.square7.c...T/oldversion/  and download GetWaikTools_v18.10.zip, this version downloads Dism version 10.0.17763.1 (That's Dism version on 10 v1809).

Just copy GWT.exe or GWT64.exe (as required) to same folder of Dism Mount Service (DMS), and run it selecting option Dism for Windows 10 as in attached picture in downloaded folder, then when running Dism Mount Service under Dism File Tab select the Path to the downloaded dism.exe
