I have searched and found countless articles on the web with regards to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) on Windows 8.1 for portable android devices, with many solutions none of which seem to work for me with my specific issue.  I have created a VHD using VHD W8 Compact from this forum and when I connect the portable device to my computer it shows up with yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager sometimes with the name of the device (e.g Kindle) or just as MTP USB Device.  I don't quite understand why such a simple task is so very complicated, it works in the original OS VHD installed from W8.1 Enterprise ISO but doesn't in the created VHD using W8 Compact.

I guess my question is what are the changes/edits/files I need to add to the filelist to create Vhd or the VHD itself so that it works in the created VHD, or what exactly is needed/makes MTP work in Win8.1 files/directories/drivers/.dlls/.reg entries etc?

Please Help

Thank You!

Well, there is nothing IMHO complicated, when you create something that is smaller or more compact, you have an "advantage" (compactness) as a trade off with "number of available features in the build".
My guess is that MTP support was among the "features" that Wimb considered to be not needed in a compacted OS or that the (lack of) feature was not tested till now.

You can *try* installing on the "compact" the whole Media Feature pack:
http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=40744
which should contain the whole MTP stuff.

You should probably post on the actual project thread, here:
http://reboot.pro/to...ct-make-mini-8/
to get hopefully some ideas/suggestions by the Author wimb, also checkwhich version of the tool you used to make the build, it is possible that it was updated.
