Where is it visible? It will show up in Disk Management but shouldn't show up in Computer/Explorer.
The role of partition ID is something often mis-interpreted, mainly because the good MS guys kept their mouth shut about the details.
We tend to believe (being only partially right) that a partition ID is something that "identifies" a filesystem type.
In reality this is NOT the case.
The partition ID is actually not completely unlike the "protective MBR" we are now used to on GPT disks.
The scope of a partition ID is to PREVENT access to it by an OS that is NOT "capable" of interpreting that particular ID, but the OS does NOT "trust" the partition ID and anyway analyzes the bootsector to determine the filesystem type.
http://homepage.ntlw...ystem-type.html
IF at any time a NT OS is booted with the "Recovery" partition "visible" the mount manager will assign to it a drive letter AND this assignment will remain "sticky".
You will need to manually remove the drive letter assignment.

hey guys. am back again. I have a problem and it happend way too quick...
I have been using that GRUB4DOS menu.lst method with Windowspe.iso to backup my image.
I have that stupid problem with hiding the Recovery partition using MENU.LST file method. Sometimes it hides it successfully and sometimes on other laptop it doesnt. So i was messing around and I accidentally hid the PERSONAL DRIVE (E:) which contains my PERSONAL DOCUMENTS and FILES not the Recovery Image. When I returned to Windows I found Recovery Partition there but PERSONAL DRIVE hidden. Then I resorted to DISKPART Utility using Command Prompt and Set that PERSONAL DRIVE ID=07 override. And now I checked it its showing RAW and FREE SPACE 345GB. Did that step make my Partition fully erased? Help me please if you have any idea. Even Acronis Disk Director is showing it as RAW and UNFORMATTED with Free Space. I have backup though I guess but haven't synchronized for the last 2-3 weeks.
Thanks to all of who read and can suggest/help.
Oh yeah 1 more thing I switch to ACRONISMEDIA.wim file to check the newly created Acronis_winpe utility as would it boot or not. I think that could have messed the entire Partition up. and i also kept changing hide(hd0,2 and sometimes 3 and back to 2).
Here's my MENU.LST configuration.
password 12345
timeout = 30
title Windows 7
unhide (hd0,3)
find --set-root /bootmgr
chainloader /bootmgr
title Restore Menu
password 12345
unhide (hd0,3)
find --set-root /AcronisMedia.wim
map /AcronisMedia.wim (0xff) || map --mem /AcronisMedia.wim (0xff)
map --hook
chainloader (0xff)

So is grub4dos installed on the broken hard disk? If so the original MBR will be in sector 2 (LBA 1).

UMM...look...i have installed GRUB loader in my System Reserved partition which is created by Windows Setup and I have pasted that MBR version of GRLDR.mbr. Then I have pasted that GRLD and MENU.lst file alongside WINPE.iso in the Recovery Image.
So stil 1st I am booting up my Windows 7 Boot Manager with GRUB4DOS option. Because the script.cmd file I have created for GRLDR.mbr has edited information in my BCD Store of System Reserved. So you can say that everything is still there as it was today in the afternoon.
Its just my Personal Drive Partition is seriously Screwed up. How to get it back. Dont tell me it got Erased due to setting id=07 override.

You could try running testdisk/photorec to see if you can recover the partition - or post the MBR contents so we can we what is in it. Was the PERSONAL DRIVE a primary partition or logical?

ok boss.. let me fetch the contents of it I will post within 2 hours. As far as i remember it was a logical drive. Because I created it later after setting up my entire system.
But this menu.lst made it primary few hours ago the moment everything messed up particularly with that Personal Partition alone.

Tried both methods. Run as Admin and Simple Run, but RMPrepUSB is not showing and DRIVE. Drives TAB is totally empty. Clicking DRIVE INFO TAB also not working. Nothing happens.

It looks to me like the last partition was an extended partition - e.g. type 0F - you changed this to 07 and then made it hidden so it became 27.
To double-check - can you do a Drive info on LBA F7C06AE - so type in 259786414 and post back sector contents - it hopefully will look like an NTFS PBR...

yeah it was an EXTENDED Partition and I did 27 or maybe that MENU.lst alongside replacing WINDOWSPE.iso with AcronisMedia.wim changed it to hidden partition and then I manually did SET ID=07 OVERRIDE which messed up everything about this 4th Partition. I recently changed it back to 07 and still its shown as UNFORMATTED and not opening. Just Size in Acronis Disk Director Suite and Disk Management Console of Windows 7.
Yeah I can surely do that. Here are the results of that specific SECTOR:

Oh thank god. It came back. I manually did SET ID=0f from DISK PART utility and it came online with all of its contents .
Thank you so much Steve. I owe you a lot man. You had been so much co-operative.

Sorry, I gave you the wrong sector!
it should be 800h+211,425,280 = 211427328
anyway, it is working now - great!

Just in case, from within grub4dos:
http://diddy.boot-la...ds.htm#parttype
Please remember that in grub4dos partitons are numbered starting from 0, i.e. Partition #4 in most windows tools is (hdn,3) in grub4dos.

Thanks for this. Can you seriously tell me in simple easy steps on how to create a simple MENU.lst which would contain all of the necessary parameters to hide a partition and multi boot and all that stuff.
and also do let me know what this MENU.lst commands mean. Here they are. I mean how they work if I ever need to modify. I always get 2 PROMPTS to select OS/Recovery. 1st one comes up due to WINDOWS 7 MBR (common sense) OK. Second Comes with Windows 7 and RECOVERY Drive which comes from GRUB4DOS and MENU.lst which I have created. So is there a way that only 1 Prompt would come up only to select whatever I would like to.???
Here's my MENU.LST configuration.
password 12345
timeout = 30
title Windows 7
unhide (hd0,3)
find --set-root /bootmgr
chainloader /bootmgr
title Restore Menu
password 12345
unhide (hd0,3)
find --set-root /AcronisMedia.wim
map /AcronisMedia.wim (0xff) || map --mem /AcronisMedia.wim (0xff)
map --hook
chainloader (0xff)
what does this CHAINLOADER thing do?
what does this --set-root thing do? and this HOOK thing?
chainloader (0xff) ???? mean???
