How did you add them?
Did they just not work or gave device manager an error?
Could they get installed at all?

I added them using zz_drivers.script - the same way as I had added the ones I had got it working with

all usb devices appeared with errors in device manager

whereas as when it works - it shows AMD USB3.0 host and controller

Ok. If you say the USB controller appeared with errors in device manager, i presume you're talking about the yellow exclamation mark? i.e. The drivers could actually get installed, just didn't work.

Best would be, if you do not include the Win8 drivers or any other USB 3.0 drivers for automatic setup in Win7PE, but install them manually with device manager, so that you get to see, if already some drivers are being used and of course the error messages.

Possible error reach from, driver being incompatible with Win7, to missing dependencies, to a required reboot.
Unless i have some idea, what the problem is, i can't try to fix it. Assuming of course, you're interested in getting this to work and are not already satisfied with the other solution.

okay - tomorrow I will build PE without win8 usb3 or other usb 3 and try installing the win8 usb3 whilst booted in PE via device manager

My other solution works - but I am quite happy to try and help so we can get this working for everyone

Will post an update tomorrow

for info the files I used to get it working can be found here - EDIT: LINK REMOVED
these were obtained from the resource CD that came with the Dell Vostro laptop - I just added them all using zzz_drivers.script and then the AMD USB3.0 Host and Controller appeared fine and PE booted fine and usb was accessible

The files it showed in device manager for these two devices were amdxhc.sys and amdhub30.sys

That sounds like eighter something's missing or the driver is really incompatible.
Will have a look tomorrow.

Good night. ;)

Holy ...!
Had a look at the zip file you posted, that thing only seems to miss the kitchen sink. ;)

Try if it is enough to just use the:
amdhub30.inf
amdhub30.sys
amdxhc.inf
amdxhc.sys

Sorry Darren!
Never asked you, if you use a 32Bit or 64Bit PE and just send you the 32Bit drivers.
So here it comes ;) : Do you use a 32Bit or 64 Bit PE?

x86

Seems to be 32Bit.

There are more USB3 dependencies at Windows 8. And check each *.sys depends in addition.
http://msdn.microsof...2(v=vs.85).aspx
http://msdn.microsof...6(v=vs.85).aspx
Driver references kernel and hal too.
Windows 8 USB driver may fail at Windows 7. I had no luck too month ago.

tried installing just the amdhub30.inf/sys and amdxhc.inf/sys from device manager in PE and I then get

AMD USB 3.0 Host Controller - twice in device manager showing as working okay

But USB memory stick still not accessible

Ok, so we would first need to find all the drivers needed from that package, before we can even think of making a second attempt with the Win8 drivers.

have narrowed it down to the contents of the hseries folder in that zip - if I install just those drivers using zzz_Drivers.script then usb 3.0 works fine - hopefully this will help narrow down cause

image 4 here shows device manager when it is all working okay - http://www.pcassistonline.co.uk/4.jpg

yes those reduced drivers work fine when installed using zzz_drivers script with box ticked to "load drivers at startup" - PE boots fine and usb drives are accessible

Ok then we have the needed drivers down to 3.
Will later see, what i can dig up in Win8.

NEC and Reanas have only 2 drivers.

Would be nice if some other members, who have USB 3.0, would also be interested in testing.

Since i don't have USB 3 controller to test on, i did some tests with the Win8 default VGA drivers in Win7.
And it doesn't look good. Seems M$ has finally made good on their thread to change the driver model to something incompatible.

Will probably add the AMD drivers to the Renease and NEC driver in the USB 3.0 script and add a dialog to choose the driver for testing purposes. Hopefully we will find enough testers to get a meaningful statistic.

Excellent - thanks for all your help MedEvil

I have access to some other USB 3 controllers - so will test the update script on these when its done

Just thought USB3 should be something considered to be added to the default 7PE build rather than having to add drivers afterwards? or using zz_drivers / driverpacks

@all
How to provide USB drivers in that case?

Idea1: Use default .script zz_drivers, but add a USB30_x86.7z files USB30_amd64.7z
Can *.7z files added to a winbuilder project server?

Idea2: Or include USB3 drivers to a script, extract files to Workbench\Common\Drivers_x86\USB30\
Run zz_drivers to include drivers to PE.
Idea2: Or include USB3 drivers to a script and run dism.exe from the script.

Any other idea?
