Has anyone ever tried this?
I've just tried on a computer of my own by just executing this on WinPE

reg.exe LOAD HKLMSYSTEM_TEMP C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSOFTWARE
reg.exe DELETE HKLMSYSTEM_TEMPControlSet001ENUM
reg.exe UNLOAD HKLMSYSTEM_TEMP

After that I rebooted the computer and it redetected everything!

This is going to help me a lot when moving Windows from a computer to another, so I hope it will help you too.

Do anyone of you know any side effect this could do?

Of course this isn't everything. Also I have to take care of some conflicting services and cleaning the criticaldevicedatabase... but that's for another time

IMHO it is (as is) of little use until you have a "complete" solution (which inclusdes the CDDB and of course it means that availability of needed boot time drivers for the "new" machine).

What happens to ControlSet002?


I presume that using Offline Sysprep gives a bit more of reliability

IMHO it is (as is) of little use until you have a "complete" solution (which inclusdes the CDDB and of course it means that availability of needed boot time drivers for the "new" machine).

As now I already detect HAL and install the correct one, and I'm working on injecting hard disk drivers by myself.

What happens to ControlSet002?

I know there are tools available for that but I need to create it by myself in order to embed it on an unattended installer (which I will be selling then ).

I am not at all "worried" you simply did not mention it in OP, and unless you check the Select key you will never know which ControlSet is actually the one in use.

Mmmm... I have never seen a computer using any other controlset than the first one... and I see my work pc is using the second :|
