ERD Commander 2005 ISO by Aero
====================================
Hi

if you try to run ERD Commander 2005 ISO by Aero without any changes, you will get
errors.
you should first decreas size of erd commander iso, then do as i will explain.

ERDC2005.ISO that i have was "482 MB",i needed to decrease this size to be able to
run that by aero,so let's go through steps i did as below:

1.Open ERDC2005.ISO by 3rd party (I used UltaISO) and delete directories below from
programs directory of iso (Ofcourse you may want to delete other directories instead
of them,i just show you the method of doing the work, but you can do it in your
favorite method, just note that you should not delete some directories,if you do ,it
will work, but you will have some errors when using that):
Adobe
mcafee
Microsoft Office
Nero
NJStar
Opera75
Paragon
PQMagic
QVP8

Now save your iso.

2.Make directory by the name of source some where for example in D:\Source

3.Rename your Modified ISO to ERDC.ISO and put that in D:\Source\ directory.

4.Use "Bart's Boot image Extractor (bbie.exe)" and get boot information of
D:\Source\ERDC.ISO,rename that to "erdc.bin" and put that in D:\Source\ directory.

5.Open D:\Source\ERDC.ISO by 3rd party and extract files below from root of that
to D:\Source\ directory:

MiniPE.cmd
TrimPE.cmd
WIN51IS
WIN51IS.SP1
WINBOM.INI

6.Open notepad and type lines below on it and save that as "WINNT.SIF" in D:\Source\
directory:

[SetupData]
BootDevice = "ramdisk(0)"
BootPath = "\i386\System32\"
OsLoadOptions = "/noguiboot /fastdetect /minint /rdexportascd /rdpath=ERDC.ISO"

7.Make afolder by the name of "I386" insid D:\Source\ directory

8.Extract files below from win 2003 sp1 to D:\Source\I386\ directory

NTDETECT.COM
SETUPLDR.BIN

9.Run Aero ,use command below for runing ERD Commander 2005 ISO

bcdw (cd)/erdc.bin

10.Use D:\Source\ directory as source for aero and make your final iso.

============
Thats all ,but note that, aero's qemu does not act perfect in this kind of projects
for example it will give error below:

File ERDC.ISO Could not be loaded.
The error code is 16

Setup cannot continue.press any key to exit
.

But do not trust to this error,i checked by VirtualBox it was OK.

Shirin,
be VERY, VERY, and I mean VERY careful with the files you use/you give info about.

ERD 2005, the ORIGINAL, LICENSED or TRIAL DOES NOT contain:
  • Adobe
  • mcafee
  • Microsoft Office
  • Nero
  • NJStar
  • Opera75
  • Paragon
  • PQMagic
  • QVP8

This is EVIDENTLY a WAREZ ;) release you are fiddling with. ;)

The original is around 150 Mb if I recall correctly.

This is just a kind sort of reminder :), this is what I call walking ON the fine line, it is very easy to put a foot on the wrong side of it, and remember that Rule #1 is FIRST Rule here:

:)

Hmm ;) it will be a long thread....;)

Let's start with some definitions:
http://dictionary.re...om/browse/warez
http://www.urbandict....php?term=warez
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warez

Basically:
  • any software that you did get without an explicit consent from it's Author, or Copyright holder, is illegal to be shared/distributed, at least in the EU and US

There are mainly 7 kinds of software, depending on the specific License/EULA (End User License Agreement) that accompanies it (or that fails alltogether to be included with it):
  • Commercial/Proprietary Software <-this is generally PAID for, CANNOT be redistributed, not even partially, usually needs a Serial or Registration or Activation Code in order to run
  • Shareware <- this is a "softer" form of the above, usually providing part of the functionalities without needing to pay a fee for it or asking only for voluntary contributions
  • Adware <- this is a yet softer form of the above, you do not pay a fee but you see advertisements when using the app
  • Freeware for Personal Use only <-Commercial/Proprietary software that the Author or Copyright holder has decided to give License to NON-Business users ONLY for Free - these are generally available by Registering with your personal data on the Author's site or sometimes just on good faith
  • FreeWare <- this may be either Free (as in Free beer, meaning that you don't pay for downloading/using it but usually are NOT allowed to redistribute) or Free as in BOTH "Free beer" and "Freedom" which not only you don't need to pay for, but are also Free to re-distribute it, usually in UNMODIFIED form, a donation of a few dollars is sometimes asked (as an option, NOT compulsory) to cover expenses
  • Open Source <- this comes together with it's source code, though generally it is also Freeware, can be subject anyway to the payment of a fee and can generally be redistributed in an unmodified form or in a modified form as long as some conditions are met, generally leaving the Author's reference and providing ALSO the Source Code of the modififcations, but other restrictions may apply
  • Public Domain <- this is NOT paid for, can be redistributed, modified or unmodified, it's PUBLIC

Of course there are several tens of different Licenses/EULA's/forms of redistribution agreements.

This board focuses - as much as possible - to use the least amount of Commercial/Proprietary software and to propose - again as much as possible - the use of Freeware or, even better Freeware/Open Source or even better, Public Domain software as a replacement for usually costly Commercial Software/Shareware, compare with Rule #4.

4. Spamming will not be tolerated. :) We have provided a section for those who wish to share personal websites, technical news or FREEWARE / OPEN SOURCE projects, NOT commercial ones. Please use these sections only. http://www.boot-land...hp?showforum=26

Examples:
  • Adobe <- Adobe WHAT? :)
  • mcafee <- Free for personal use antivirii, like, to name just a few, Avast, Avira, AVG
  • Microsoft Office <- OpenOffice.org
  • Nero <- IMGBURN
  • NJStar <- http://zh.openoffice.../new/index.html
  • Opera75 <- OK  this is NOW Freeware, but right now it is at version 9.64 ! , 7.5 was still Commercial/Adware, first Freeware was 8.x:
    http://web.archive.o.../www.opera.com/
    http://web.archive.o...tp://opera.com/
  • Paragon <- Parted Magic / Gparted (partially Swissknife/Partition Logic/Others)
  • PQMagic <- Parted Magic / Gparted (partially Swissknife/Partition Logic/Others)
  • QVP8 <- several different applications

Hi dear jaclaz

I think Learning world is independent and does not have any limit.
In learning highway,we should never interference, religion, color of skin, being man
or woman,and ...
In this highway all are one!!all are friends, all are trying to help himself and
others.
We should not think this work is done by XXXX so we should not learn or teach that,
No, SCIENCE is for all and we should not limit that.

Any way i talked a lot,and again was not successful in telling all i wanted because
of my pour english.

My last point is that:The admistrators of this great site, has made great and excellent
site,no advertizing,no obscence pages,no limitation in publishing computer science,and
many other exceltent properties.

I have learned a lot here and tried to teach some to be some help.
I have not seen you, even i do not know from where this site is made,But i want to say
thank you to all of you, because of all you have thought us,and hope great successes for
you all.

But , About warez:as i understand, you say warez to apps that are not legal.
I am not going to advertise this tools and i never like to do that, and i think, you are
right in this subject.

Dear jaclaz i have a question for you ,i have seen your nice and wise notes in hundreds
of web pages, and i have learned a lot from your notes.now tell me please,do you mean
that we should not talk about tricks and methodes that warez group (or what ever word
you say) do??

if so,if me as basic user and you and others as advanced users ,do not learn and teach
this methodes, after a while, the warez groups will be lone rider and no body will
overcome them.Do you mean this?

When i see a question of "how to do xxx" from a member of this great site (as link
Below from "Mortis" and many others" and messages that i recive),I realy try very hard
to find answer for them,a lot of times , i spent several hours to find and download
one app that users have asked question about that, then i test and work on them (some
times few weeks) to find answer, then write that at small and easy to understand tutor
by my poor english.

http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=8171

Last note,Do you mean that we should not write about special apps,or again i could not
understand the problem because of my poor english?

have nice life

Sure.

Well, NO. ;)

We MUST draw lines somewhere.

We have lots of sand and several sticks, why NOT using them?

It is called ETHICS:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics

Quick FAQ's and relative FGA's:

Q: Should we allow discussions about raping, pedopornography, drug dealing or similar illegal activities because we may possible learn something from it?
A: NO.

Q: Ohh, comeon sharing apps is not a crime like the ones you mentioned, can we discuss about the techniques used and share some sites/links?
A: NO.
To be more accurate:
  • as long as we talk purely about the techniques used in order to replicate them in an "absolutely" legal way, Yes.
See this as an example coming from "real" life:
    http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=20836
  • when it comes out in ANY way as, even indirectly, supporting/advertising/promoting the use of ANY software acquired through illegal means, NO. :(

Q: But Forum xxxx allows this kind of posts, why not here?
A: Because we did draw some lines, coded in Board Rules. If you don't like the Rules you can go elsewhere, as an example to Forum xxxx: this is freedom. If you don't like the Rules, but you like this place, you may want to consider the possibility that this is such a nice place BECAUSE of Rules, and decide that you may actually like to have a small part of your freedom taken away in order to comply to the Rules, and decide to remain here.
As always, don't take this as somewhat unfriendly, it is not meant to , but we have Rules, and a few, good reasons for them being:
P.S.: WHY the Rules
Rules are here to prevent possible misunderstandings between members and help make this board a peaceful, relaxing place in the net where exchange of MEANINGFUL opinions, ideas can take place.

In a "perfect" world, the above rules would be unnecessary, as all people would "naturally" behave along the same guidelines, which are nothing more than mutual respect.

But please do remember that our is not a "perfect" world, and, particularly, this is a privately owned board where the Owner/Admins/Mods have the power to do whatever they see fit to keep things going as smooth as possible.

You can dislike the idea of rules and even dislike the particular rules that have been stated, but if you do not comply with them, you can leave, there are other places to go.
It' not as bad as you think. :)
Maybe it's still a little bit poor, but the more you read and write in English, the more it will better.
I have learned a lot here and tried to teach some to be some help.
Yep, and we do appreciate the time and efforts you have put in contributing to this site.

Very good. :)
See above for an answer to your questions.

Poor little things. ;)

All lonely in their cold and uncomfortable wooden sheds whipped by the winds of this information era winter.....

...I feel pity for their loneliness....

What you seem to be completely missing is that WAREZ groups DO NOT help in the least in diffusing knowledge, on the contrary, just like (a vast majority of) Commercial companies they contribute to SUBTRACT knowledge FROM the PUBLIC.

Typical instructions:

You may want to read my similar considerations on this actually completely unrelated thread:
http://www.msfn.org/...howtopic=133309

The whole point is that getting some WAREZ is CHEAPER than buying them legally, and EASIER than making your own/find existing FREEWARE equivalent app.

Doing cheap and easy things is not the scope of this board and of it's members, we like to learn, try, fail, hitting the dust and resurrect, stumble, fall and finally succeed, aiming all the way up to the stars!

Back to the original given advice, you should be aware you are walking on the line, and be very careful not to step on the wrong side on it, that's all.

:)
