Hello guys...

I am just coming here to know about the wonderfull program Mindows which shrinks the Original Win98 install process....Excellent Approach.... :confused1:

I am new bie here and i am trying to perform a Mindows installation to make a Bootable LIVE CD...

I am having some questions about that Live CD....

1)Does that CD will be able to access directly all my hardrive data...[Just Fat32 Partitions] In other words Does it shows my hardrive in My Computer ?

2)Does It contain Floppy Drive support to backup some Documents from the Hardrive....?

3)The Most important Question is about USB Flash Memory support...
As you all know that USB Flash Memory support in windows98 requires Drivers installation for different menufactures...Does Mindows Detect different USB Flash drive ?

Bunch of questions..... :confused1:

Plz help me....

Thanks in advance...

Well,
yes, yes, maybe.

Any hard drive with a filesystem recognized by "standard" Win98 will be accessible as well.

For NTFS support (if needed) there is the READ ONLY filesystem driver from Sysinternals and the READ/WRITE (from MS-DOS window only) NTFS4DOS from Avira.

Same goes for floppy, it will work as long as the filesystem on it is supported under "normal" Win98 (FAT12) .

About USB support you will have to experiment a bit, adding the Maximus Decim USB drivers:
http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=43605
should work allright.

I Did not found Windows95 CD or its files...So i just chooze 98LITE for minimize Windows98 Installation...
http://www.litepc.com/98lite.html
It perform major tweaks for me and I made some manual removal of unneeded files....
Now i am having a tiny windows98 Installed in Drive C:\Windows. [Size = 60 Mb]
Maximus Decim USB drivers works fine with it ....I also isntall some other essential software which i want to include in 98Live CD.....
I also downloaded all files from the Winimize download page....

Can any One tell me what steps i need to perform....I almost undersand the instructions given there except the "Making Bootable Floppy" < No Help files for this....
Unfortunately I don't have a Floppy Drive so Can I use USB Flash Memory Instead of using Floppy...?

Thanks...

I guess it is possible, but you can use a floppy image, using a bootmanager like grub4dos and/or memdisk to map a file to a virtual disk or a virtual floppy driver such as:
http://www.geocities...fdrv/index.html

Using a USB stick as a floppy involves some "advanced formatting techniques" that, apart being fairly complex, might not work with your BIOS or USB stick.

If you have access to a NT/2K/XP/2003 machine, you can easily use:
http://chitchat.at.i...re/vfd.html#top

Under win9x, you can use winimage:
www.winimage.com
or Diskexplorer (maybe, I am not sure if it works under W9x):

Thanks for the Information about Virtual Floppy...
Actualy I have a relatively better tool Floppy Image Creator which can be able to write FloppyImage.IMG file and it can also Mount that Image file....

First of all thanks for your guidence....Now i am having a Mindows Install on my machine...Unfortunately it is very much shrinked so it can't be able to run some of the software i want to install on it....
The Other solution was 98Lite which is a bit larger in size but that allows me to run those applications on it...
I think that does Not make any difference whatever inside C:\Windows Directory....

1)If I install a Physical Floppy Drive what steps are required next...
2)What changes Do I need if i am using a Virtual Floppy...[I am having a Drive Letter P: for Virtual Floppy...
3)Can you Provide a IMG Boot file of your LIVE CD....[I think that should also Work]

If point no. 3 is not possible please explain a detail method whatever i have to do with C:\Windows Folder to make a LIVE CD...

My Target is just to Pull C:\Windows towards the Bootable LIVE CD...

Thanks....

Let's divide it in TWO steps:
1) for the moment, forget everything about Windows, Mindows, 98lite.
1a) Are you able to make a DOS 7.x (Win9x) bootable floppy image, you can download one from the internet and modify it to your requirements?
1b) Can you install a virtual machine, like QEMU (+QEMU Manager):
http://www.davereyn.co.uk/
or Virtual Box:
http://www.virtualbox.org/
in order to properly test it?
1c) Are you able to use the created bootable floppy image in the making of a simple el-torito .iso image?

2) Once all points #1 are cleared, your best options, if you are trying to make a live CD, which is NOT the Minimize one, but just a transfer of your "custom" WORKING build from HD to Live CD are these two:
http://www.lachiesad...w98cd/page1.htm
http://www.geocities...eedatarecovery/

Choose ONE of the two, and try following it, if you have SPECIFIC questions, try to post them here, maybe someone can answer them, but you must realize that this is an experimental topic, rather "advanced", there are a number of difficulties implied in the process even if the said tutorials are followed to the letter, let alone if you introduce "variations" to them.

In other words, and this applies generally to the learning process about almost anything, things must be made in steps, first thing is to try replicating an already described procedure EXACTLY as it is, with NO changes whatsoever, next is introduce ONE, just ONE change, and see if it works, next you introduce another one, and loop back until you find a problem. This is the only way to identify a problem, whenever you introduce more than one change and the procedure won't work, you will have NO way to understand which one caused the problem.

As always in this kind of experiments, using a Virtual Machine and image files is STRONGLY suggested, as it allows for faster testing.
