Didnt know it was an  available option. Seems like a good idea if youre not planning on using a Dvd drive.

Send them your DVD Optical Drive so they can use youre original faceplate.

If you are interested in our Universal Caddies, but don't want to transfer the DVD optical drive bezel / faceplate yourself, send us your DVD optical drive. We will transfer your DVD optical drive's front bezel to our caddy.  We will also transfer any brackets attached to the DVD optical drive to our caddy.   We will then ship both the caddy and your optical drive back to you.

Universal HDD SSD Caddies. Might be for those doing their own faceplate tranfer.

It looks like those are pretty decent prices.  The last time I checked on one from Dell I think it was like $100 if I remember correctly.

Geez, my laptop has an MSATA port so I already have a second "hard drive" on mine.  I put a 500GB Samsung EVO 950 in it and am very pleased with it.  I could get a 1TB MSATA and two more 2TB Samsung EVO SSD drives with this caddy and have 5 TB total drive space - all SSD.  If only the Powerball ticket would come my way :)

Just for the record (and for future memory) be aware of the "added" SATA pin 4, the replacement caddies SHOULD have a switch for it as you won't be able to know if your laptop/OS needs the line or goes +10% or +20% CPU until you try it:

Wow!  How obscure is that!  And how weird too.  I doubt 'll ever get one one but I doubt I could ever remember it being an issue if I did.

Forget what TheHive says about sending your original optical drive/faceplate. It will cost you money to ship it, you might need to use it later, and it could be necessary to have it if you need to send your notebook in to the manufacturer for warranty repair.

I bought my Alienware's caddy from newmodeus.com, they are a bit pricey but are of much better quality than other caddies. Mine was thick and relatively heavy, others I've bought felt paper-thin.

The faceplate they send you is crappy, flat, generic , black and it may not line up correctly with your notebook's casing. If you keep your original instead of sending it in, you can sub it for the one they provide.
