I've been looking everywhere for guidance on the "bootable USB drive issue" and can't help but state that reboot.pro has the most comprehensive tutorials and information I've seen on the subject. Having said that, Hello!. I'm really pleased to have joined the community. At 63  :wheelchair:  I'm not really sure how much I can contribute but, maybe I'll surprise myself! :3th:

About the "where to post" question, I've followed all your tutorials on bootable USB drives. I've tried DOS, Grub4DOS, Rufus, UNetBootin, ISO to USB, RMPrepUSB and so many others I can't remember. On ISOs, I've tried Puppy Linux, Kubuntu, Hiren's, UBCD, etc. However, the problem doesn't seem to be the above; the problem seems to be either the USB Flash Drive or my system.

The USB Flash drive is a 64Gb "who knows who made it" one I bought from eBay.

My system is a "home made" one with a Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10 Ghz, 8 Gb of RAM, on a ASRock H61M-HVS motherboard running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit.

No matter what I do, on booting I just get a blinking cursor. :frusty:

Any guidance on where to post is appreciated. Thanks!!!!

The "blinking cursor" is a typical issue with a mismatch in device geometry, BUT the "no-name" and "bought from e-bay" together with "64 Gb size" tend (statistically) to lead to "you have been scammed"

Start a new thread here:

After having read this one:

Post the results of BOTH the Chipgenius and the test done with RMPREPUSB.

Enjoy your stay and hope to see you more often around here. :)

There is no need to swear  :loleverybody:

Seriously, can you make a USB Flash drive using RMPrepUSB with the Boot as HDD (2PTNS) option - install grub4dos using the Install grub4dos button and then boot it using the QEMU button. It should boot to the grub4dos shell. If it does then try on  a real system and report back.
