Just tried this program for first time today hoping it would be easier than BartPE to add programs etc.

Source is a Dell Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to Windows Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade CD.

Have run WinBuilder 074 and 075 in Windows 7 and Windows XP Pro. First tried Minimum but have Downloaded complete. Trying to use VistaPE Core V.12.

Running WinBuilder from C:\WinBuilder and the source is D:\Vista (copied from Disc).

Error while running:

Microsoft Filesystem Filter Manager not found. Please install latest SP

Errors indicated in log.

RegRead - Failed to read specified key from: [HKLM]Section: [SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FltMgr] Key: [DisplayName] to variable:: [%RegName%]

Run - Failed to find section [NotConfigured] in file: [%BaseDir%\Projects\VistaPE-Core\Base\00-api-main.script]

By the way, how do you attach the log html file to a post?

Can you use this program to make a CD with XP Pro instead of Vista. Do I need to slipstream a SP into my Vista CD?

Thanks

Steve H :]

Basically you have a non-standard source, which is at the same time an "upgrade" CD (non-standard) and a OEM CD (non-standard), this makes a nice non-standard2 .

If you also consider that Media Center is also partially non-standard it could even become non-standard3 :w00t:.

It's a problem. :)

These projects were developed and tested on standard install sources, and though possible to modify the .script to take into account the differences in your source, it is unlikely that you'll be able to do so, as a - no offence whatsoever intended :worship: - newbie.

In any case you are running obsolete versions of Winbuilder, which should be used only on particular cases and with particular projects.

Since you are running 7, maybe it would be a good idea to forget about VistaPE and build a PE 3.x (Windows 7 based).

Where did you find 074 or 075?
The latest official Winbuilder.exe release is 080 (attached)
Using VistaPE-CAPI, waik must be installed:
http://www.microsoft...A5-5B50C657DE08

Using VistaPE-capi or LiveXP, your installation source must be clean and untouched!

Concerning a log, there is a free upload service here:

Thanks Wonko, al_jo

I have obtained a OEM Windows Vista Home Basic. I have read that I will need SP 1 (and slipstream it into my OEM version of vista)

al_jo - got version 074/5 here: http://www.vistape.net/download.php

Is there a guide for version 08? I downloaded that but it is setup differently from 74/75. The tabs are different. ie no source/paths
The download page does not react the same, but I am figuring it out.

Would like to try winbuilder. Pe 3.0 seems different again.

No Kidding!!!!

No offense taken - it is very true, especially when you are not of the computer generation (I'm 67) :wheelchair:

Don’t think you need any service pack, where did you read that?
Also, “www.vistape.net” is rather old (2008).
The latest VistaPE-Capi project from 2010 is here:
http://vistape.winbuilder.net/

Not sure if a “OEM Windows Vista Home Basic” will work. But you can always try.

You can also/instead make a VistaPE using only the Waik as source with a a tiny VistaPE-capi (10MB) project that is tailored for use with only Waik.
Has no network, IE7 or Explorer. But it’s working anyway and uses BSexplorer.
The final ISO will be about 80MB. App script can be added later.
It’s here:
http://al-jo.zxq.net...apewaikonly.zip
Download and extract to D:\Vistape for example (Winbuilder.exe is included).

The waik is needed of course:
http://www.microsoft...A5-5B50C657DE08
Download and extract the ISO to your hard drive to D:\Waik for example. Or mount it with Daemon Tools.

Start Winbuilder.exe (Run as Administrator in Win7)
Only point to the Waik source and click the big blue “Play” button.
10 minutes later you have a ready bootable VistaPE ISO!

al-jo

Have successfully run WIN7PE-SE and LiveXP and created boot CDs with complete downloads.

Now have to learn how to include some of the unticked apps, especially the antivirus apps like Avast in LiveXP. :confused1:
