I'm not using minlogon.exe but I've googled a bit.

Some reasons:

Windows NT checks a registry key for file-rename operations to be completed early in the boot process. If the file-rename operation cannot be completed because the file or folder does not exist, the error message that is listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article is generated.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317189

Looking on 911CD there are some reports that mention how ex-ERD commander minlogon could be used to solve this matter:
http://www.911cd.net...&...ost&p=11586

Here on boot land there are a few indicators that minlogon along with w2003 files might have success:
http://www.boot-land...?...f=52&t=1135

----------------

On the lack of better ideas, I'd say give a look on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TEST\ControlSetXXX\Control\Session Manager and see what relevant entries may need to be adapted to minlogon or compare them against the ones found on a XP PE based system like liveXP or bartPE.

Do post your results and good luck! :thumbsup:

hi aeroxp,
in order to make minlogon run you must add this key into winpe:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

"Config"=dword:00000017

I also have had troubles to use Minlogon inside nativeEx_puzzleXP with XP SP2 source (I used the 17)

Questions:
  • For which OS is the '17' valid?
  • Any link pointing to the '3c' for a different OS?

What version of minlogon.exe are you using? Mine is 2.00.0927.0 and the value 017 works perfect

So, what has it to do with a WinPE (which this thread is about)? :unsure:

Try with a non-SP3, and with a recent minlogon. It is possible that SP3 broke compatibility with earlier versions of minlogon. :unsure:

Surely SP0 (Gold), SP1 and SP2 "full" Windows do work, cannot say about PicoXP as some Registry keys (or whatever) may have been removed/changed, though I doubt it as minlogon is also used in tiny projects such as XPCLI and MiniXP.

In Portable XP and Mini XP then I use registry tweak for minlogon

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; minlogon - SYSTEM account and keep explorer shell with Sky Background

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\softwaredst\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Config"=dword:00000017
"Background"="166 202 240"

http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=23553

USB_XP_Fix.exe and IMG_XP_Compact.exe make use of the given tweak.

Sure :thumbsup:, that is in *any* guide/tutorial/project/whatever making use of minlogon, since the good ol' times when Acheron and  sfiorito came up with the idea:

http://www.msfn.org/...der-oembiosbin/

http://www.mp3car.co...-footprint.html

BTW, I was not talking about "your" Mini XP, but about this MiniXP:

friske,
Maybe you are wanting to run before learning to walk. :unsure:

PicoXP, notwithstanding its name, IS NOT an XP, but rather a PE 1.x.

What is the specific reason why you want to replace Winlogon with Minlogon in a PE?

Minlogon is normally not used on a PE, it is a replacement for Winlogon, which is NOT used (in the sense that you do not login to a PE).

WHERE (EXACTLY) did you get the minlogon.script?

The setting of "Config"=dword:00000017 is NEEDED for Minlogon to work.
Check the Registry of the XP and of the PE, it either is there or it is not.
If it is there, then the issue is not related to this setting, if it is not you need to add this setting to the Registry.
You can modify the PicoXP project adding this Registry entry and the replacement minlogon.exe or you can manually modify the "Target" directory and re-build the .iso.
Same goes for the other issue you are having with EDIT.COM (actually with AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT), you will need to either replace thing manually or learn how to modify .scripts.

:cheers:
Wonko
