Dear advanced developers,

I Am very sad, that i can not run Microsoft Safety Scanner X86 from Windows XP live environment. I AM using ammazing live Xp project created by Mr Amalux, and i AM using Windows XP SP3 professional X86 as a source. I Am using X86 variant of Microsoft Safety Scanner. I AM getting dialog box, that error was occurred, without details and i must confirm to exit The program. Microsoft Safety Scanner can be executed from standard installed Windows XP. Would somebody of us try to give Me some advice?
I AM using Windows XP live environment, because Windows7 environment is allocating much more RAM and to use this ammazing antivirus program, i must have as much RAM available as possible to run it.
Microsoft Safety Scanner X86 variant can be downloaded from
here
Would somebody of us try to look on this problem?

The direct download link of live XP project created by MR Amalux is available
here
Any help is very welcomed. Because this Microsoft antivirus tool is i think very well done for live PE operations and virus removal.
I have tested it with Windows7 live environment, and program have worked without issues.
I Am thinkink, if this tool do not depend on Microsoft net framework. If it is not The cause of The issue. But i do not think so.
Thank You very much for Yours help.
With kindness regards.

Hi Janusz,

I can't get the tool working in LiveXP but it does work in Win7PE_SE and I'm certain we can get your audio and NVDA setup as well. If we use a stripped down build, the memory requirements shouldn't be excessive; what is the memory available on the machine(s) in question?

It is also possible to run the tool in Window's PE 3.0 as described here: http://4sysops.com/a...windows-pe-3-0/ but I don't know how to get audio working and it doesn't save much in the way of memory so not recommended.

Let me know if you want help setting up the Win7PE_SE.

Dear Amalux,
I Am deeply appreciating Yours support and kind access to Me. I have found out, that Windows PE3 is compatible with Microsoft safety scanner, and i will try to remove or set The Net framework script to do not copy The netframework files to The RAM, it will save some memory.
I have systems with 512 MB or RAM or more.
Today, i will try modified Peters Schlang Windows XP live project based on Winbuilder 083, fortunately, Mr Schlang added Driver import PE script to automatically load sound and others driver during startup. And because DirectX is here, i can run NVDA from this project too.

I Am only sad because of one think.

Why nobody of Reboot pro community do not want to add support for The Microsoft Disk defragmenter program from Windows7 PE. May be, that my opinion will be isolated, but i think, that Microsoft defragmenter is best defragmentation tool and while running it by using ofline mode by running it from live PE, it's effectivity is really good.
I have found out, that The bad strategy is to use several various defragmenters for defragmenting disk volumes. The performance is going down.
And because i Am very constructive human being, here is The algorithm, which would enable somebody of us to create script to support Microsoft disk defragmenter from The Windows7 live PE project.
Here are The instructions, i do not want to overload somebody of us, so if defragmenter will not work from The drive properties dialog, it do not afraid.
I can run
defrag c:
From The run dialog window. Would somebody try to implement those instructions to The Microsoft disk defragmenter script?
If many others complex registry changes would be necessary, please let Me know and i will not overload You because of Microsoft disk defragmenter from Windows7 Pe project.

Here are The instructions.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEEXTERNALSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{80EE4901-33A8-11d1-A213-0080C88593A5}] @=”Defrag NTFS engine”

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEEXTERNALSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{80EE4901-33A8-11d1-A213-0080C88593A5}LocalServer32] @=hex(2):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25, 00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,44,00,66,00, 72,00,67,00,4e,00,74,00,66,00,73,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,00,00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEEXTERNALSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{80EE4902-33A8-11d1-A213-0080C88593A5}] @=”Defrag FAT engine”

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEEXTERNALSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{80EE4902-33A8-11d1-A213-0080C88593A5}LocalServer32] @=hex(2):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25, 00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,44,00,66,00, 72,00,67,00,46,00,61,00,74,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,00,00

For these files you can copy them from a Vista machine but make sure that the Vista service pack version matches the WinPE service pack version. Make sure to place them in the same locations as they are located on Vista.

Files To Add:
WindowsSystem32Defrag.exe
WindowsSystem32dfrgfat.exe
WindowsSystem32DfrgNtfs.exe
WindowsSystem32DfrgRes.dll
WindowsSystem32en-USDefrag.exe.mui
WindowsSystem32en-USDfrgFat.exe.mui
WindowsSystem32en-USDfrgNtfs.exe.mui
WindowsSystem32en-USDfrgRes.dll.mui

Once you have added these files and registry keys to the Windows PE WIM you can then use Defrag via the Windows PE Command Prompt.

With all due respect :), this is a topic where you cannot have "an opinion" (I mean, of the kind "I find Brahms far superior to Mozart").

It is a technical matter, and as such it can be proved right (or wrong ) by tests.
To say that tool "A" is the "best" defragmentation tool you will have to:
  • define "best"
  • find a REPRODUCIBLE set of tests
  • test ALL other existing defragmenting tools
  • publish the results of such tests
When it comes to defragmentation it is very likely that the usual flame debate of the kind FAT32 vs. NTFS, Alien vs. Predator, Godzilla vs. King Kong or Diskkeeper vs Rest of the world (BUT - BUT they are part of scientology :w00t: ;)) comes out.

Simply ask for assistance in having the thingy you like added to the PE (like "I like Brahms") :smiling9:

Specifically, let me doubt (still with all due respect :)) that you have measured a sensble difference of performance (let alone noticed) between IDENTICAL hard disks, on IDENTICAL motherboards, with IDENTICAL files, copied (and fragmented) in an IDENTICAL way, after having defragged them with the PROPER settings with DIFFERENT tools.

Dear MR Wonko,
You are having absolutely right, You are man with scientifics approach to The thinks related to information technology and it is good approach to such kind of thinks.

Yes, really, it is my subjective feeling and i did not measured it and it is out of my possibility, it is work for informatics laborators or for some very intelligent absolvents of facultee of informatics on some university.

But if i could ask You. What do You think about The adding Microsoft disk defragmenter support to some Windows PE3 based projects?

The piece of article, which i have found on The Internet described The technique, which registry keys and which files would be added to The WIn PE to make disk defragmenter from Microsoft executable.

What do You think about The instructions and do You think, that it would be really so easy to add Microsoft disk defragmenter support to The Windows PE3 based project?

Thank You very much and thank You for Yours scientifics informatics work, which You have brought to The development of Windows PE based projects published on Rebootpro discussion forum.

multiPE_XP (and multiPE_XP_NVDA) already contains Defrag (Option in MMC script).. It is not necessary to import here anything from Win7 or Vista PEs.
IMO LiveXP also has the MMC script and therefore Defrag
