I have various Dell PCs ranging from an Optiplex GX270 to a Latitude D600. Some PCs are newer than others and the oldest one dates back to 9/2003. I would like to have a image that I could build on to produce other images for various departments. The image would be saved on a virtual WDS server that would only be running to deploy a image. The base image would have WinXP SP3, Office 2k7, Acrobat Reader, etc.
I have built a virtual WDS server (Win2k3 SP2) and added Vista as the boot image. I have also created a capture boot image. I have built a standard test image with just WinXP SP3 and ran SysPrep to initial play with.
When I PXE boot the PC to capture or deploy the image I realized that I needed to use Vista networking drivers instead of WinXP. I'm now starting to realize that in order to make this work some older hardware is going to need Vista drivers, which Dell doesn't support Vista on say a Latitude D600. So now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get an image deployed. I would like to automate this as much as possible however, I realize that depending on what options I have setup in sysprep.inf there may be some hands on.
I am open to any and all suggestions but realize that I am a newbie at this.
Thank you to any and all!
