Actually, ADK is a broad purpose package. One can download and install its separate subpackages by running the setup exe: Installing the Windows ADK .

I wonder, if direct ISO links for components are available, and will work with HTTPDisk...

Interesting is, at quick look ADK docs don't seem to mention ImageX. Instead, updated DISM is slotted as primary imaging and deployment tool.

Even, Imagex.exe is found in "Windows Kits8.0Assessment and Deployment KitDeployment Tools*DISM". Where * put amd64 or x86

Is there a way to know what drivers does this WinPE include?

What version of ImageX is it - any other info in its File Properties? Regarding drivers, you should be able to find it out after mounting with ImageX files Boot.wim and Install.wim from Win8 CP Setup ISO (or Boot.wim from Win8 PE) and looking through Windows/Inf, WindowsSystem32Drivers and WindowsSystem32DriverStore folders content. DISM is also supplied with Win8 CP ISO, thus making offline Win8 install available without ADK - just follow recommended by MS Disk Formatting Scheme. :)

Where you able to trace downloaded ISO source files during ADK install?

Found on the web that new ImageX and DISM from WAIK 3.5 (Windows 8) are provided in Tools folder of a mounted Boot.wim from Windows 8 Developer Preview ISO, which can be accessed via HTTPDisk (if you know the direct download link). :)

Update on ImageX versions:

ImageX 64-bit for Win7 that comes with WAIK 3.0 has file version: 6.1.7600.16385 of 7/14/2009, size 567 Kb
ImageX 64-bit for Win8 CP that comes at the moment with ADK Deployment Tools has file version: 6.2.8520.0 of 2/17/1012, size 695 Kb

ADK installation is fast and easy, if you select only Deployment Package, which is really small, and contains ImageX and DISM for both 32-and-64 bit Win8 CP.

There appears to be a new option on mounting a wim in the new imagex. It speeds up the mount by delaying expansion so when you start you see all shortcuts.

Also noticed that win8 wims cannot be opened with 7-zip.

Win8 CP doesn't contain ImageX.

I wonder, if GImageX can be adapted easily to work with new ImageX... Don't see published or included standalone docs for new ImageX either. Any new commands?

Docs are not included currently. They are online at MS ( http://technet.micro...y/hh825110.aspx )

The api includes these flags:

#define WIM_FLAG_MOUNT_FAST 0x00000400
#define WIM_FLAG_MOUNT_LEGACY 0x00000800

Dism command line options:

http://technet.micro...y/hh825258.aspx

See new /Optimize option ( same option is available on imagex ). I would suspect when building a pe its going to make no difference.

I see some commonalities too. Probably, MS just didn't have time to update ImageX docs, they will be added later, unless this tool is slated to be consumed by DISM. Currently its supplied in DISM folder.

DISM GUI is the nice add on too. Not sure, if the author just plans to update it to new DISM though, but the link is appreciated. :thumbsup:

"I’ve just started working on version 4 of DISM GUI and honestly I don’t know what features of DISM to add." I wonder, if it will be a good idea to open a new Reboot thread on DISM GUI and invite the author to participate? He would certainly get valuable feedback here... :)

Meanwhile, MSFT has published DISM API and updated WIMG API so we have more possibilities than before. :victory:

I guess the DISM GUI author would be interested in these links too. :)

so where did this ever end up?  I have in the past used the win7 PE project with imagex and the Gimagex GUI to do one to one captures without sys prep.  I now have my first Win8 tablet and need to be able to do the same.  I was already looking at the new project so what do I need to get this working again?  Does Gimagex work with the new imagex??
