the first tutorial in kaspersky is for updating the entire ISO file while the second tutorial is updating the virus database and definitions as the KRD boots.

clarifications:

 

on the first kaspersky tutorial (updating the entire ISO file), on step 8, it is better to type in the filename "kav_rescue" or "kav_rescue_iso" so when you use kaspersky's rescue2usb or YUMI, the iso file can be detected.  or you can simply rename the existing rescuecd.iso into kav_rescue.iso or kav_rescue_iso.iso

now that the malware was removed, it is wiser to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 or Norton Internet Security or AVG Internet Security, as long as it is internet security with antivirus, not antivirus alone so you are safe online or offline.  those malwares that were thriving on your PC will not go back and infect again.
 
but the best is to install a new windows operating system (so, backup your important files.  The performance of post-infected computer is not the same compared to pre-infected or not infected computers), install the necessary and important programs, update all using windows update, install an antivirus with internet security and update it and make an image backup using norton ghost, acronis, etc. so that when problems arise like corruption, virus infections, etc. you have a complete image backup with you that can easily be restored.  copy also the complete image backup to your portable hard drive to be sure especially if the entire internal hard drive fails.
 
i recommend/suggest Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 because it is proven already, used by millions and has cloud protection and many more.  All you have to do is customize.  Set it to update every 15 minutes so updating is very much fast.  Just explorer every menu, every tab, every button, etc. to harness it full power and effectiveness in disinfecting and removing malware and preventing it to infect again.

besides KIS 2013, you can include Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to make your PC completely secure since they have no conflicts.  be sure to have 2GB or 4GB RAM or larger and faster processor with many cores (quad, i3, i5, i7, phenom, etc).  KIS & Malwarebytes are good combinations.

I found ArchBang, which is based on Arch linux. As for now:

 

Bad things: almost messed my PC(I started other thread about it), Firefox crashing, missing many apps, slowing down.

 

Good things: live mode boots almost as fast as xPUD while beeing recently updated, having many more base apps and being complete enviroment, allows persistent mode, is semi-compatible with Archlinux and its packages.

i already download the alphaOS & Archpup.  so, Scooby, what should i do next to put them to any flash drive and make them persistent?  can you give us the simple steps?  TIA (thanks in advance).

If you really want to try Puppy Linux, then I suggest one of their recent official 5.5 distros, prefferably Slacko 5.5 that is using some of Slackware 14.0 packages. IF you are into USB bootables, then I would also check any version based on 3.8 kernel that is supporting f2fs filesystem, which is designed specially for (some newer)flash drives.

As for persistency on USB sticks, from what I know all mainline Puppies have it build it - simply just run for the first time, config and then restart. Upon every restart you wil be asked if you want to create persistent file and save settings. Beware that once you do, it will be used every time, unless you change boot parameter.

Overall Puppy Linux was designed as small, fast, hardware compatible "out of box" USB distribution, but i have found that it isn't really that compatible, lacks certain drivers and packages in package list(!), lots of features described as "out of box" does not work properly, and it might even slowdown or crash. Of course you can fix most of the problems if you spend enough time, but for me customizing it for every system kinda contradicts 'multiboot' approach.

Nevertheless if you are into USB linux, and didn't try it, then you definitely should.

I cannot say for AlphaOS since I had a problem with touchpad and no time to fix it at the moment so havent really tried it

 

for ArchPup steps would be

 

1. Go to  steves RMPrepUSB site and follow the tut 72 at http://www.rmprepusb...asy-to-maintain

 

It explains how to format USB drive and install Easy2Boot

 

2. Drop ArchPup iso in  \_Iso\Linux\Auto folder, make sure it is contiguos with wincontig (this also explained in tut 72 afore mentioned) and then boot to USB drive and select Archpup in menu.

 

3. When Archpup is booted to get persistence right click on desktop and choose system-->Make personal savefile

 

  (Depending on what version of archpup you use you may be booted to a commandline, write "archpupx" here to start windowmanager, you may have to do it 2 or 3 times)

 

 

you probably should try AlphaOS though since Archpup is discontinued!

Tried ArchBang and AlphaOS, liked first one but had no need to keep OS of that kind. Then I tried AlphaOS, for like 30 min maybe, before I removed it. Name says it all, IMO it will be long way till some final stable version.
