Hello Guys,

First off I'll explain the project to you:

my company currently gave me the task to create a bootable Windows PE Stick. The Stick should have the following features:

Independable Bootable ISOs using Grub:

Hiren's Boot CD

Ultimate Boot CD

Windows 7 AiO CD

Windows 8 AiO CD

Symantec System Recovery

That works sofar.

For the Win8PE Enviroment it should run:

Hirens Boot CD Tools

Symantec Ghost

Now to my Issue.

The Bootstick is requiered to map network shares at boot up. To do so I have to run PENetwork before the Explorer Shell. But when I do so PENetwork will run but the WinPE Enviroment just freezes. I tried it with and without the automatically mapping of the shares and that doesnt seem to matter. No login credentials are requiered to access the network share, so that shouldnt be the problem.

Im pretty clueless as to why it just freezes, maybe you could help me.

Kind regards.

Your company must have a rather elastic concept on what is allowed on a stick. :dubbio:

Have you tried simply killing the Explorer Shell and then (if it doesn't reload by itself) reload it?

Hello Wonko,

yes they have a very elastic concept :D the idea behind the stick is that our support technicians can take their usb stick to costumers and to the various support desks to troubleshoot.

how can I kill the Explorer Shell when the System freezes?

What I forgot to mention earlier. The freeze is just a black screen with a cursor in the middle. The PENetwork Window opens, searches and finds a dhcp and gets an ip then disappears and nothing happens anymore. Tried to move mouse but nothing happend :(.

Cheers

I see. so your company does not use WAREZ for "internal use" only but additionally uses them on customer's devices.

Very elastic. :whistling:

I mean, load normally at boot Explorer.

DO NOT load automatically PENetwork.

Try running PE Network manually only once the Explorer has been loaded.

What happens?

Now if you kill Explorer and restart it, what happens?

If - as you say - the idea of the use of the stick is to be taken by your support technicians to your customers, it seems to me like the mapping of network share should happen (only optionally) once booted has completed, as the network shares won't be available at your customers' locations.

Why Warez? The Symantec Products are all Licensed for every Stick, Windows AiO doesn't mean Warez since you can activate them with OEM Keys :) And Hiren's and UBCD are free to use afaik.

The project is very confusing since there isnt a single version for all sticks. Sticks that go Outside wont map automatically, Sticks for Internal use map automatically thats the endgoal. But at first I need to get them running properly :)

For PENetworks when I run it after the Explorer Shell everything works fine, even if I restart the Explorer Shell. But when it boots before the Explorer Shell, which is necessary for auto mapping afaik, it doesnt. Wierd aint it  :D

Ill get off work soon and wont have time to make a screenshot of the settings but will do tomorrow maybe that will help you.

Cheers

No and yes, AFAIK/AFAICU, and of course that represent only my personal opinion, JFYI:

Well it's up to you (or your supervisor) to check whether a given tool can be used (or distributed) in a Commercial environment, a number of tools included in UBCD may have limitations for non-personal use:

https://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

More generally (nice BTW) "collections" like the UBCD are normally used by people with somewhat less technical knowledge than professional support technicians, that usually can put together their own "toolbox" with exactly the *needed* tools (i.e. what they actually use on the field) the UBCD is quite "wide" and of course includes a number of duplicates or "never used in real life" tools, as an example you normally wouldn't need 7 or 8 bootmanagers (some of which definitely outdated) and 9 hard disk copying/cloning utilities (since you are already using as "standard" the Symantec thingie).
